Issue persists in 8.6.0.20351 in the Andriod app on a Galaxy S9+…
Issue still occuring o 8.7.2.20952 on Galaxy s8. Will not automatically upload photos.
Not only does this issue still persist in Android mobile version 8.8.0.21074-beta, it’s even more broken than before. In post #2 on this thread, I describe how to recreate the issue. When the app was in the background, PMS was still updated. This is no longer true. Whether the app is in the background or swiped away, PMS is no longer updated. The context is as follows:
The Upload content setting in the mode ‘As soon as new photos and videos appear’ no longer works. It is treated as if the mode was set to ‘Manually’ . When that happens, to upload new content, either the START button has to be clicked, or the Camera Upload switch toggled off and then back on.
This issue was first raised in the thread Camera upload not working (auto) - #4 by RandomFTW on 21 Jan this year. Since then, it’s been kept alive in this tread. During the almost nine months that has passed, my Pixel 3XL has gone through a major OS iteration from Android 10 to 11.

Still an issue here. Windows plex version 1.21.0.3616-d87012962 and apple iPhone iOS 14.
Any time scale on a fix would be appreciated as it was 1 of the features I wanted.
I just signed up for Lifetime Plex Pass, I had no idea this function was broken. And broken for nearly a year? I don’t want to end up having buyer’s remorse here, but I was really looking forward to this feature.
Can someone from the Dev team please update on the issue?

I gotta agree. It is extremely disappointing that this has been broken for over a year. I’m using a Pixel 5. It says my photos are uploading. Nothing is uploading. Plex android app version is 8.10.0.21911.
I just purchased Plex Pass over Thanksgiving mainly for photo backup (due to Google Photos announcing a 15gig cap starting this coming summer). To my disappointment, my photos do not backup automatically, and it’s somewhat difficult to manually get the app to do it all. Are there refund options if this feature simply doesn’t work as advertised?

Broken here on pixel 4.
The fact that camera upload has always been buggy and has now been broken for over a year, shows how plex can not be counted on as a company.
Got a Oneplus 6T and 3T broken here.
App Version (both) : 8.10.0.21911
Server version: 1.20.5.3600 (Ubuntu)
Even changing to a different app the upload stops. Unfortunately unusable.
Back to having multiple apps that all do the same thing to be able to do what just one was supposedly able to do.
Well, at least NextCloud can do a lot.
Pixel 4xl, Pixel 2xl, Pixel 4a, Moto G Power and a few ROM’ed Fire 7’s… All of which can not auto upload in the background. ((In fact I found that changing the settings in one device for one user will change it for ALL devices and users))
I’m also here because I thought plex could replace Google photos auto upload feature for me. This is an issue and is even worse when trying to upload a ton of photos… My wife has 15k photos and it crashes the uploader
Same for my phone and my wifes. Galaxy S9 to Unraid Docker of Plex. have to open the app for it to upload but then it will on its own - just not in the background without being launched first

Is this still being actively investigated? Not going to keep paying if such a central feature is just going to be left broken forever.

Photo and video sharing between my devices is the entire reason I wanted to try Plex pass. I am also having the issue of my camera upload feature not completing the full upload process.
Stuck Uploading for weeks on a Sony Compact
Is there any indication of when this will be fixed? I bought a lifetime license just only for this feature. My own uploads just work fine. Those of my girlfriend however seem to fill the temp\upload folder but never get placed in her directory. The apps just hangs on the message that its uploading.
Me and my girlfriend have the exact same phone, only difference is that I run a custom ROM.
The fact that the pictures do arrive in my server TEMP folder, indicates however that the mechanism is working partly.
