The Upload content setting in the mode ‘As soon as new photos and videos appear’ seems to work only intermittently. At some point, it is treated as if the mode was set to ‘Manually’. When that happens, to upload new content, either the START button has to be clicked, or the Camera Upload switch toggled off and then back on.
Okay, I’ve managed to faithfully reproduce the issue using the following steps:
Setup: PMS is open in a browser window. The Photo library where camera photos are uploaded to is selected in Timeline view. Make sure the mobile app can upload over wifi (or mobile data).
On the mobile app, set the Upload Content context to As soon as new photos and videos appear.
Swipe the Plex app away. IMPORTANT: Leave it running in the background.
Take a photo using the phone.
After a few seconds, refresh the photo library in Plex Web. The photo you took should appear at the top of the timeline. You may need to refresh several times before this happens. Be patient!
Now find the Plex mobile app in the background and swipe it away so it is no longer running.
Take a photo using the phone.
Refresh the library in Plex Web. This time, the photo is no longer uploaded.
Intermittent behaviour when Upload Content context is set to When charging as well. This was working earlier when I tested it and now it’s consistently not working for me.
Hey @basilh, sorry to have missed your report. Is there any chance you could provide app logs about it? In theory taking a photo should start a “job” in Android app that would upload it the photo library set at camera upload section.
Thanks for sharing those logs @basilh. After some investigation, it seems that the mechanism we rely to auto-upload photos/videos based on certain conditions (when added, when device is charging) does not work when app process is killed. We need to investigate what are the Android APIs we need to use to do a proper job there, based on recent changes made by Google around battery consumption and apps in background.
Thanks for the report, I’ll keep you updated with any progress on this
@jesusmc Updating this thread is not about persistent harassment, but touching the topic acts as a keep alive timer to prevent the topic closing after three months. It also forces me to check the beta version as I may have missed the advertised fix. Apologies otherwise.
@jesusmc I can confirm it’s definitely an issue here also, SmartPhone Honor 8x Android 10 latest Plex Beta release, and so is the player issue over WiFi local and WiFi remote playback, these issues should’ve been fixed ages ago, but hey, what are we as users know?
