Just wanted to add that I’ve been having this issue as well for the past few months. It’s tremendously annoying. Based on what I’m reading in this thread it sounds like a memory leak in the Plex Apple TV app that Plex is unwilling to devote resources to fixing. Given how reproducible this is for the users experiencing it, it ought to be easy to track down if only someone would take a look at it.
I’m going to try restarting the Apple TV 4K daily or as often as needed, to see if that improves things.
Though this issue is marked as “solved” it really hasn’t been.
Agreed that this issue id NOT solved. Who told you it was solved. You need to reopen the case because you haven’t fixed this issue. I have had to reset my sidebar twice today already.
This has been annoying me for ages and is still happening (version 8.22).
tvOS allows apps to have guaranteed persistence of 500K in user defaults. I am guessing this is not being used here and the app is probably just caching the data internally which is why it disappears whenever the app is removed from memory. The selection of sidebar items and default tab for each shouldn’t total more than a few bytes so should be easy to store in user defaults and that would solve this once and for all.
@anon18523487 has there been any progress on this yet. There has been no word from support for a long time. Can you please provide a solution for this issue?
I reduced the entries in the sidebar of Plex on my Apple TV to Movies, Series and Documentaries. No settings have been reset since. This has been going on for about 3 weeks now.
This issue is still not entirely resolved. It appears that the sources be pinned has been resolved; however, the software is still getting reset somehow and the tabs are reverting back to “Recommended” rather than where they were last set (i.e. Library).
@anon18523487 This is still a big pain. The tabs are still getting reset almost every day and I have a lot of libraries to go back through and fix it. Clearly the setting to remember tabs is not working.
Here too, always the same behavior, every day for 2 years.
Server Version: 1.32.0.6973
Client Version: Plex 8.24 (6661)
Apple TV Version: tvOS 16.6 (20M73)
I’m almost thinking that Apple also needs to solve memory management in its TV.
Good morning everyone. I am writing to confirm the apparent stability of the system since my last message about 20 days ago.
The libraries remain correctly selected even days later, without returning to the Recommended Tab. The problem of the various Tidal, TV & Shows and Plex Channels creeping into the Pinned Tabs had already been resolved some time ago. I ask you to check whether these versions provided below have definitively resolved the issue.
I suspect that tvOS 17’s better memory management has drastically improved this situation. I would stop the updates for now to avoid further problems in the future.
