Apple TV app sidebar resets. All. The. Time

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone could kindly help me get the Apple TV Plex app remember my sidebar preferences or is this some dark pattern of the more modern Plex team to continue to push unrelated and unwanted content onto us all?

When Plex launches I spend the time to remove basically all of the new Plex bloat from the left side sidebar to ensure everything is much clearer and easier to select our chosen content. But it continues to be magically ‘reset’ back to the ‘ad tabs’

Is anyone aware of how to retain my sidebar choices please? I’m running the latest Apple TV software and latest Plex app too so can only assume I’ve either missed a setting somewhere to ‘remember my selection’ of some description or it’s done on purpose by the Plex devs in the hope I’ll accidentally click on a program/ad that no doubt gives them a kickback, the issue has been persistent enough for me to believer it’s by design and not a bug.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you don’t want to use our streaming or discover stuff you can turn those off at https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources

Is the app loading like a brand new user that signed in for the first time and asking what you want pinned or just not showing libraries? Do they show under MORE? The only time I think it may just seemingly change on it’s own and only show our streaming stuff is if it cannot find the server to load the libraries to prevent a blank home screen ( if the streaming content is not turned off) but it should add them again automatically when they are found.

Hi there

Really appreciate the reply, thank you.

It’s not loading as a new user as such, just all the options I manually choose to ‘unpin from sidebar’ seems to always come back. It just doesn’t remember the choice/selection which has lead to it being a very frustrating experience every time you want to use the app.

The real gem here is now knowing and understanding that there’s an option to turn these things off in the main server part so I’m hoping that this change propagates and reflects across all Plex apps and keeps the menu items from re-appearing.

It still begs the question why these menus didn’t honour the user selection of being hidden from the sidebar, but hopefully what seems like this more global approach to removing them will make it stick.

Thanks again for your help and I’ll be sure to report back should the pesky menus re-appear.

Hi monsieurblack, thanks for writing this post.

I had the same problem - I run a plex server on a mac, and have an apple tv.
Whenever the server updates, the “live tv/tidal” and other menus returns on the left sidebar and I have to unpin them each time.
My account remains logged in after the updates, and as far as I can see nothing else changes, apart from the added menus on the sidebar.
I have tried turning off the settings that BigWheel reccomended, and will let you know if something changes.
In any case, the steps needed to take in order to turn this off are really not obvious and should be made clearer to the user.

Thanks!

It sounds like you are running into this which we believe is a memory problem that we are looking into

Thanks so much for the reply and obviously shame it’s some kind of bug but appreciate that it appears to have been noticed and logged and I wasn’t going mad imagining it

Hope you guys manage to sort
