Server Version#: 1.32.0.6973
Player Version#: 8.18.1 (5813)
The Player reset the view at any start, introducing “Reccomended” as default view in any library, then inserting in the left panel: Watchlist, Tidal, TV Movies And Show, ecc.
In 2022 it happened often, about once a month. Now it happens every day from April 2023 to today.
I’ve write about the problem in november 2022 here and in february here, but no solution seemed valid.
Today I will retry, moreover after seen isn’t only a problem of my configuration.
just use infuse
Please more details: tea or coffee?
OK kidding aside, I wasn’t familiar with this App having read about Plex compatibility issues in App Store reviews, but I’ll give it another go. Thank you for the suggestion
I’m not sure what prompted a change (perhaps a Plex app update on AppleTV device or me logging out and signing-in to Plex ID) but I also noticed view returning to “Recommended” instead of my preferred “Library” each time I started Plex app
Further infestation of Plex app settings provided the solution.
Plex app for tvOS, iOS and ipadOS (perhaps also Plex app for other platforms) has the following setting: Experience > User Interface > Remember Selected Tab [ON|OFF]
Setting “Remember Selected Tab ON” was the fix for me.
Thanks for the suggestion. In fact I got to try this thing last November, when it rarely happened. However, the reset has not ceased to recur occasionally and today it has become a daily occurrence.
That setting works if I open my account from any browser, from the iOS App, from smartTV, but not from tvOS.
I therefore suspect a wrong value in the various XML preferences of Plex, perhaps from the amount of media (about 6000 elements in the library), but I don’t want to investigate so deeply and I was hoping for a solution from Plex Inc. also by virtue of the fact that there are apparently many of us in this situation.
Thanks anyway for your advice and for the desire to spend you on someone else’s problem. I’m glad it works for someone.
I also have the same issue and the problem still exist in Version 1.32.2.7100.
My Plex client version is 8.19.1 (5988).
I am having similar issues with my Plex App on my AppleTV4K. I turn on the remember selected tab but the app still resets EVERY day. There doesn’t seem to be a fix. This was not an issue until recently, so whatever update was released it was released with a bug. Regardless this is still an ongoing issue!
Is support looking in to this @anon18523487 ?
Are any of you guys still having this issue? I haven’t seen it for several days but I have also notices that my client version has been updated to 8.20 (6066). Can anyone confirm the same thing?
Hello I still have the issue. Next days I will try the update to 8.20 then report here for public utility
Sounds like the same issue as AppleTV Player Version 8.1x doesn't save home screen preferences.
If that is the case, try making room on the Apple TV.
8.20 version do the same thing here
The peculiarity is that despite the application being closed and relaunched or the AppleTV restarted, the “Pinned Items” settings and the “Recommended View” in the library collection always remain as set, but reset always takes place the next day.
20GB free here, I’m pretty sure it’s not a memory issue
Plex app for tvOS, iOS and ipadOS (perhaps also Plex app for other platforms) has the following setting: Experience > User Interface > Remember Selected Tab [ON|OFF]
This does not work on my AplleTV-4K, it keeps back to “Recommended”
The problem is becoming worse since version 8.2.0 (6066)
it would be better to change that options with a choice “Recommended/Library/Collection” in stead of “on/off”
Well, I was hoping the latest update had resolved this but no. It just happened again this morning. As to this being a memory issue, I don’t believe it’s a lack of memory since I have 64Gb of memory and my apps only use 507.Mb. I realize there are more resources allocated after the app is running and maybe this is what’s causing the issue.
@anon18523487 This sounds more like a memory leak. Since this was first reported on May 17, I suggest the team look at what is different prior to that date.
I also found this on the web: “tvOS will automatically delete extra app data as storage space becomes scarce.” I have noticed that this problem began for me after I started running DirecTV. Could just be a coincidence but I’m sure DirecTV must require a significant amount of resources too.
Sorry, I meant for memory (RAM), not storage. Unfortunately, Apple does not allow a way to view how much memory is being used.

Their guide data probably requires a lot of RAM to hold all that information. If they don’t release that memory back when you exit the app, that could definitely contribute.
I reset the Apple-TV to factory settings and then only installed Plex and another app. Before, Plex would forget the settings every 1-2 days. Now that Plex doesn’t have to share the memory with other apps, the settings have been retained since 14 days.
Makes a lot of sense, I have been Powering down my ATV daily. I have not seen this issue recently.
Thanks to this feedback, I have try to shutdown, instead of put automatically to sleep the ATV.
Before this I had also verified that the reset takes place within 24 hours, if I wake up the Apple TV after 15 hours the problem has not yet occurred
With only Plex installed the problem reoccurred after 3 weeks (instead of a few days).
Better but still annoying.
I will now reinstall my other apps and shut down the apple tv every night for a minute. Maybe this clears the cache or something similar.
