Server Version#:4.156.0 on Windows 10
Player Version#:Web
When deleting video files within plex the server is automatically deleting external subtitle files (SRT, SUB, etc) without sending the file to the recycling bin.
More annoyingly, if you have two movies Merged together and you delete one of them plex is automatically deleting subtitle files from both folders for both versions of movie when you delete just one of the versions.
Don’t know where to report this to get it addressed.
I found this issue today too. I also can’t see any way to report issues. This is very frustrating and I’ve no idea how many subtitle files have been lost as a result.
I cannot attach log files zip as its too big and I can’t figure out how else to do it. I haven’t enabled debug level as I have no wish to lose more subtitle files, however I do have these screenshots
Old folder
New Folder
In PLex, selected info the selected the delete the old title. Afterwards, the entire original folder is deleted along with the subtitles for the new folder. I’ve noticed that the list of subtitle files in the Info dialog is also screwed up, as it seems to associate both subtitle files with the first media file; this may be the source of the problem.
Just to keep this topic alive, it seems that plex associates all subtitle files with the first entry it lists in info, but that may be coincidental. I’ve so far found 20 instances where Plex has deleted subtitles; fortunately, I’ve been able to find alternatives online, but if I have an obscure title, I may not be so lucky. For now, I’m not using Plex to delete things; I’m doing it manually until I’m really confident this bug is addressed.
Is this all we need to do to raise this as an issue, or is there something more to get it added to the defect list?
If it’s linking it to the first file that explains why once or twice I noticed it didn’t delete the subtitles; normally I’m adding better versions of the movie and deleting the original, but a couple times I’ve added and then removed the same version of the movie, keeping the version I originally had, and it seems the subtitle file wasn’t deleted.
As for working around the bug, one method I highly recommend is to just back-up all subtitle files in your library. Fortunately none of the formats are very big, so you can just do a global file search for then copy all of the files to another folder away from your library for safe keeping.
Does anyone review these reports? Is there a way to ensure this gets logged as a defect on the backlog? I’m guessing there is no public repo like GitHub.
