So, I’ve got videos that I pull from my TiVo, auto-cut the commercials, and extract subtitles to the same directory as the TV show… and the video w/ subtitles works perfectly in Plex… however, when I go to “delete” the show, Plex says it’s deleting it, but only deletes the .mpg file and leaves the .srt file behind, cluttering up the share with the TV shows with stale .srt files.
Am I missing a config option, or is this somehow intentional and I just need to get over having to log into and manually delete the subtitle files myself?
Clearly Plex knows about and uses the .srt file for subtitle info, or I’d not get them displayed during playback.
I would think this is by design. I can’t see Plex ever managing your files like that. I mean the fact you CAN delete a file in PMS is surprising BUT to go beyond that…No… First, the SRT file, then the JPG/PNG, then the whole folder. No I can’t see that…
It is by design. I can see both sides of the coin and while it would seem rather easy to delete the srt file associated with the video file there could be an issue not apparent to a mere user preventing Plex from implementing it.
This issue pops up on the forum from time to time, but Plex doesn’t seem interested in doing anything about it, so for now manual removal of wayward srt files is the only option (one of the reasons I only delete material from a file manager).
