Bugs, questions, and feature requests

I wonder if Plex employees actually go though these threads regularly. :)

I guess for questions, I am wondering why the load time for the PS4 version is so long. Not sure if thats similar on XBox, but as a user of other clients I'm not used to load times so slow.

>  Bugs so far - There is sound but no picture on certain mkv videos. Why not just cut both since we can't watch a blank screen and only listen to audio. Unless you are a blind person. The strange thing is, another video in the same series with the same bitrate works fine.

This description is a bit like a UFO sighting. If you're really interested in sorting it out try starting a new thread. Including/comparing the media information for a working video from the information from a non-working video is a great start.

The controls pulls to the left and you have to either wait it out or quit the app and start over. It happens every time I use Plex.

This is the first I've heard about something like this. Odd!

  1. UI seems to be low resolution (?)
  2. Transitions and animations are needed. Everything feels a bit non-responsive without them. There’s an overall feeling of choppiness in some motions and scrolling.

    Overall a solid first step!

I also have the mentioned bug (above) with the Controls.

I use the PS3 Sony Remote to control.

Sometimes when you scroll to the left or right it seems like the button stucks and it scrolls all the way to the end of the list.

Also when you hit a Movie for example you get the Description and so on.

But you get stuck there for a few secods till the analysed Format(720,1080,....) Logo appears.

Then you can hit start and watch.

Feature request: On PS3 Play and Stop Video using the controller's Start button.

Question: Why is the background so blurry?

Would be nice to see movie backgrounds like you do in plex web player.

I notice that the recommended local playback quality is 8 Mbps. Any reason? I have it set to the max at 20Mbps and it isn't the smoothest playback even on high quality video files. I realize it is brand new so there will be bugs, but just curious.

when it buffers or has issues usualy means file is being transcoded and either pc is not fast enugh or your using a nas, and also a bug with a certain format causes aspect ratio problems Anamorphic  i think

I am not using a NAS, using my PC. My PC is pretty decent 4 GB DDR3 and Wolfdale Processor Dual Core 3.16 Ghz. It isn't the newer i5 or i7 but that's all it basically does it setup as an HTPC.

May have already been mentioned, but a "Play next" button or automatically go into the next episode after 10 seconds would be really appreciated. Similar to Netflix.

Playlists!  Also, more options on the "homepage" would be nice....we have 'recently added", "unwatched", "new films", sometimes (randomly) it lists a genre, but what about "most watched", or "most popular", or more specific "Marvel movies" or "Movies from the 80s" or "classics"...I know that would need added tags, but I am willing to put the work in if I see it in action.

Feature I would like to see soon is:

- Having the ability to switch to between episodes without going back to the episode list. This feature is available in the Web-player (two little arrows in the top right corner)

- After watching an episode, it would be nice if I'm the menu goes back to the next episode directly instead of going to the already watched episode.

- Just before the episode ends, maybe having a "would you like to start the next episode" choice would be GREAT.

Thanks

What i would love to see is the posibility to browse movies by genre. Now it is possible to click a movie and from there go to a genre of that movie. But what i would like to see is the option to select a genre from the menu and the abiltiy to browse it that way.

thats a great idea i usualy find a movie and click on the option to see more like it.

Feature requests:

Add Plex Home support for local user management - kids

Add trailer support - too many times I'm stuck explaining what a movie is about or pulling up a trailer on my phone

Add search functionality - cuz thousands of contents r hard

This is the first I've heard about something like this. Odd!

I`m experiencing this as well on my PS3.  What I have noticed is that all the .mkv files that it only plays the audio from have Ref Frames 9. And the files that play perfectly has Ref Frames 8.

phw, try disabling Direct Streaming from User Name drop down > Settings > Video > Advanced > Direct Streaming. Did forcing a transcode work around the issue?

A fix for anything that is <720p would be great (unless this is in the latest release?)

If you're seeing a consistent issue please see if a topic exists already. If not a new thread with some good detailed information will definitely help.

I frequent gaming forums, and I still see a lot of people bringing up a lack of DLNA as a major frustration with the PS4.  When I talk to them, the responses are generally either:

1. Never heard of Plex.

2. Only interested in DLNA for custom background music while a game is playing.

3. Have a bunch of uncategorized videos and don't feel like renaming a giant library just to use streaming on the PS4.

4. Don't want to pay for a subscription to play their own videos.

Obviously 4 will be taken care of when Plex leaves beta (I assume it'll be a one-time fee then?).  2 would be great if Sony lets you, even if it has to be a separate app.  3 should be easy; although the Home Movies category works on the server end, the PS4 client doesn't have a folder view option that I've been able to find, making it difficult to use if you have more than a few videos.

Personally, I'd love to be able to set default audio and subtitles at a series level, since I have a lot of anime and I keep both languages so my family can pick between dub and sub.
