Title says it all. Similar to the poll I posted in the One forums, would be interested to see 360 users chime in on their thoughts here. Hopefully Plex devs can use this as a repository for customer feedback.
Please add your comments on your experience with the Plex 360 app after voting!
i think the app itself is great, it makes a nice change to using DLNA on the 360. However it would be nice if channels were available and also access to the music and photo libraries. I don't like the default of 4meg 720P playback, I'd prefer the default to be Maximum.
At the moment, no. The preview images when you go to the libraries list means I can't allow my kid to use the app. Sure, there is always the chance she'll go into those libraries but the images don't need to be in your face just from the library list. The Xbox One style of just having solid color blocks with the library name works well, however I can't afford to buy another one for the second TV.
I played a few MKV's and the activity in plexweb said direct play.
yup same here.
Something must be off, because the Xbox 360 does not have the ability to play MKV files at all. They must be transcoded. Unless they're just an H.264 file that has an MKV file extension?
Perhaps someone with more knowledge can chime in, but I am certain that the 360 did not gain the ability to playback native MKV. Hell, you can't even do that on the Xbox One via the Plex app yet!

mkv is just a container. it can have multiple audio, video and subtitle tracks inside encoded in different methods, one of which could be h.264. The server will extra tract these streams and send them to the client, so directly reading the MKV format is not required. This is transcoding. if the client cannot read the internal format (h.264 or what ever) the server will then re-encode the video into the required format, a much more CPU expensive function.

No, this is Direct Stream. Although there is transcoding of the container (only) in your example - the proper term is Direct Stream.

I'm fairly satisfied myself. Spent about 3 hours last night giving it a run, and it played everything I threw at it. Love the high def wallpaper, box art, and program synopsis. This truly has changed my Plex experience and has made my private content library 1000x nicer to navigate.
Come on, it is a 9 year old device. I think the fact that we can use it for Plex now is awesome, even if it is not perfect.
That's a good point; having such old tech supported is truly nice. That said, for 9 year old tech, the memory bandwidth & CPU is more than equipped to handle the highest 1080p video (10-8 GB/s x 2 in the GPU, 22.4 GB/s RAM, and a triple-core CPU clocked at 3.2 Ghz). Seeing that there's been over 78 million sold since release, it would have been foolish for Plex to not support it IMHO! :)
I'm extremely satisfied with this app. I think they did an awesome job and this is so much better than using DLNA. Not quite perfect but it has everything I needed especially subtitle support. Just about everything I tried played back flawlessly. Subtitles didn't work on one file. I wish the buttons for fast fwd and rewind on the controller matched Windows Media Center usage instead. I keep accidentally going back to the beginning of the file instead of rewinding. Got it in a bad state once where the buttons for fast fwd and rewind didn't work. Seems to have trouble when I use Plex on two XBox 360s at the same time with the same profile. Need to test the last issue more but I suppose I could work around it by creating additional profiles. So there are some issues but the app just works which is what I love about Plex.
I would be more able to vote/review the app IF IT ACTUALLY WORKED I have tried everything to connect to my server via Xbox 360 app to no avail and I have been wanting this app since I first discovered plex

Have you done anything to troubleshoot it or are you just going to complain and hope it magically starts working.
Not singling you out but those who just post "me too, whats the deal" or "it doesn't work" or "I've tried everything" when they have two post and no info whatsoever about what is actually wrong really don't seem like they want it to work.
