I would like to set up my remote devices, and remote users, to download a movie or album, before playback. I know it sounds like a lot of bandwidth, but, if they could download to a temp file, before playback, instead of simply streaming, any network issues during playback would be negated. I’m sure this is probably something most people wouldn’t want to do, but to me, most of my stuff is around 2 gigs, so having to wait a few moments locally, or a minute or two if I am away from home, or at a friends house, would be better than watching a movie that hangs, studders, or lags.
Have you considered letting them actually download content from your libraries? This should work for the mobile clients and the Plex for Mac/Windows/Linux desktop app.
For music, Plexamp already does exactly this.
