Hi, I’ve been really enjoying Caldera so far and wanted to start a thread to discuss moving towards integration with headless streamers. For example, I know there has been some discussion about Wiim integration (which would be awesome). I wanted to also mention RoPieee.
RoPieee is a Raspberry Pi image designed to serve as an audio streamer, that runs multiple audio streaming services in one device and allows for seamless switching between them. For instance, you can Airplay to the device and it will interrupt the ongoing Plexamp stream, or vice versa. Currently there is Plexamp support, which works well, but will be going away now that Plexamp is becoming unmaintained.
There was already some discussion about replacing Plexamp support with Caldera support. It sounds like the minimum needed from the RoPieee dev’s perspective is scripting hooks. Of course open source would be awesome, but seems like that is not in the cards.
Wondering if support for this (or something like it) would ever be considered for Caldera headless. I’m guessing that supporting scripting hooks would open up a wide array of integration possibilities, which would be really cool!
This would be great, I was trying to use RoPieee initially but any 24-bit files would often cause buffering on a pi4 (don’t have this problem with Caldera, thankfully!)
Some more context for use case, to answer the perhaps-inevitable “why not just use Caldera headless by itself?”
Despite my best intentions, I am the only one in my household who uses their Plex library as the primary music library. Therefore I need to have streaming endpoints that support, e.g., Airplay or Spotify Connect. I think this type of use case is pretty common, which is why people buy Wiim streamers.
FWIW, Caldera headless +Plexamp is by far the best experience out of any of these that I have tried.
Your concern is unfounded. Only reason why headless Plexamp is deprecated is because Caldera Music is a much better option and I’d rather not waste my time.
