Calling a script before a video is played

Hi all!

I’ve just written a command-line script which can download subtitles from Addic7ed.

Have you any idea how can I have it executed before a TV show is played (so that it downloads the subtitle on demand)?

Best regards,

Julien Tessier

Perhaps make an applescript that gets called every hour or so?

Can you post your script? Or perhaps put it on github.com

I don’t think it is possible now, but I think a new type of agent, like a preprocessor agent and post processor agent could be allowed. It could be like a “contributes to Movies” or contributes to tv shows thing. If no agents contribute and are switched on in PMM, then it goes about it’s merry way. That would be pretty cool.

That way you could have family type trailers for one section and raunchy ones for raunchier sections.

This could also be used as a way to go to the next movie or tv shows, or even play era specific commercials around tv shows, like around leave it to beaver play old barbosol commercials.

If such pre/post-processing agents could be implemented, it would open up all manner of functions… Dimming room-lighting before a movie plays, speed-limiting/pausing bandwidth or CPU hogging programs  before playing HD content, or for the social-network inclined - updating facebook/twitter with viewing selections (Mike is watching ‘The Running Man’)

Instead of downloading the subs on-demand, could you attach the script to a folder action so that it downloads the subs when a new episode is added to the folder?
