Hi. This has been making me pull my hair out recently. Where is the option to turn off volume normalization for film? I keep getting issues with low volume portions of movies being muted entirely and its driving me nuts. I’m using plex on shield with my server running on my computer. Anything is helpful.
The Plex app doesn’t do volume normalization for movies, only music.
Well could you tell me what might be going on then. I’ve been trying to get some answers for my issue here and it’s like pulling teeth sometimes.
Are you sure the volume in the file isn’t actually really low? You’re gonna need to provide more info. What’s your setup? i.e. Do you have an AVR? If so, wha ttype? How’s everything connected. Is it specific files or every file you have? Do you have a sample that you can provide for us to try and reproduce?
No its complete cut out. There is no sound. No ambience. Nothing. Even if I turn it up. If I play the file locally without plex it doesnt happen. Then when something in the background becomes loud enough or someone starts talking it kicks back in and you can audibly hear it. Like a low orchestral track where the violins are low then pick up and die back down. It’s on every file. Using a nvidia shield with a nighthawk router and everything’s connected via hdmi. It only happens with movies. Tv series are fine. Other videos tab is fine. Music doesnt do it. Just movies. I’ve seen in several places where people have had the same problem and the answer was to turn off normalization for movies but could never figure out where it was. Guess we know why now. I’ll get a video of the issue asap.
This is from the plex website faqs. Where can I find these settings?
Normalize Downmixed Volume
When downmixing from 7.1 or 5.1 to less channels, Plex Media Player will try to level out all channels to make the speech track more audible. If you hear distortion you can try disabling this.
That setting is specifically for the Plex Media Player app you run on a computer. The Plex for Android TV app does not have that settings because it doesn’t have that ability.
Have you checked your TV itself? Many have a normalizing ability, which I personally hate.
