Can I add 1 off tv/movies to a TV series?

Not very common but I have a few TV shows that have additional content - e.g. an outtakes episode. It isn’t part of the db since it is a one off. For example, I have Psych the series and 3 made for tv episodes.

I’d like the additional made for TV epsiodes to be listed in the general plex listing for that show. Is it possible?

Most of the time those would be considered Specials ( season 00 ). The episode numbers for for those Psych ones are listed here https://thetvdb.com/series/psych/seasons/official/0. so those should get metadata if you use TVDB Aired Order for that show. But even if they did not show up there you could always give it fake season 00 episode numbers and add metadata manually.

If you want them to also be a in a movie library the only way to do that is to add them to a collection of the same name of the tv show collection. ( this is not the best because you end up with collections that only have one thing.

You could also add these as local extras.

Caveat: only extras at the top (show) level are supported in all Plex client types.

Thanks- I put the first made for movie TV episode in a subfolder called Season 00 - which in plex shows up as Specials which Is great with me. I named the first one the same way I name all my other episodes - e.g. Psych - S00E05 The Movie- 2017

Plex shows it as Season 1 Gag real

Psych - S00E07 Lassie Come Home - is listed as Psych revealed.

Edit the show (mouse over its poster and select the pencil at the bottom-left) and navigate to the Advanced tab. Set the “Episode ordering” to “TheTVDB (Aired).” Then click “Save Changes.”

Yeah, watch out with your show numbering. By default, Plex sets all libraries to use TheMovieDB’s numbering systems, even for TV Shows. You can change how episodes are numbered on the entire library leve, or as pshanew showed you can change it on a per show basis.

In TheTVDB, Psych Specials season has the movies as 05, 07, and 08.

In TheMovieDB Specials, they apparently do not list the stand-alone movies. I’d suggest using TVDB (library-wide, but at least use it for this show).

I know I’m sweating the little things - Psych worked perfectly. It may not be identical but I was hoping to do the same with Burn Notice - the Fall of Sam Axe. I couldn’t find a Burn Notice - S00E01 type number for it.

Looks like it is S00E01, according to TheTVDB:

Yep, another case where TVDB wins. I’ve always used TVDB by default instead of TMDB, and I hadn’t seen any reason to change back.

Now, after seeing that two shows I have (Psych, Burn Notice) do NOT have their specials supported by TMDB, I feel pretty vindicated. I’m actually quite surprised though, I thought the two sites were pretty similar in capabilities.

Rhetorical question: Why does Plex default to TMDB for TV Show libraries?

Thanks for helping out. I put in a folder called season 00 - this is what I did for psych but it worked for psych. I named the episode Burn Notice - S00E01 ( named the psych episodes the same way Psych - S00E05).

EDIT - WHOOPS - I see what I did - I forgot to scan the folders again. Thanks!!!
