I have a very pesky set of discs (Mr. Show Seasons 1-4). The regular episodes are fine, but the special features are a mess, and only kinda partly line up with what’s listed at TVDB. (Ripping the discs produces 16 special episodes; TVDB lists 40).
I’m trying to just do these manually based on what the DVD box lists vs what’s up at TVDB, but I think I’m about to have an aneurysm. So…
Anyone else already done the legwork on these discs? Or, anyone know another source besides TVDB that might have a more accurate accounting?
If you’ve organized your files according to TheTVDb, make sure to set the episode order in Plex accordingly.
You can either set the default episode order on the library level (see advanced library preferences), or override it for individual shows (see advanced tab when editing the show).
Thx, Tom. Yeah, they’re named as close as I can figure. The problem is, is that there’s not a 1:1 correlation between what’s on the discs, and what’s listed at TVDB.
On TVDB, you often see typical “bonus content” counted as special episode.
Don’t expect to see all of these on your version of the discs. They could have been only available through a website, or are featured on a separate disc release.
Don’t expect that.
The primary listing on TVDB is how the show was originally aired.
There can be significantly different episode orderings, numbers of episodes, etc. in later disc releases.
Some shows have a dedicated “DVD ordering” listed on TVBD. See if this fits your discs better.
I’d also advise to always compare with what is listed on TheMovieDB.org.
Unless of course it’s actual episodic content of the show. In which case it’ll make sense to further investigate if there’s an adequate/corresponding order listing the stuff you’re missing or have in addition.
None of the forty extras listed on theTVDB appear to be assigned into the DVD order for Mr. Show. So if you have the discs and know which of those 40 are on the discs you could add them to the DVD order listing in whatever follows their appearance on the discs.
If the actual specials are not in the same format (like multiple segments combined into one), it becomes more complicated. You would need to create NEW episode records for the home-video specific version of the special, and fill in the metadata info for them. Then they get assigned into the DVD Order, and the original broadcast version stays in the Aired Order.
You see this most in shows with two-parter episodes where the home video release presents it as a single double-length episode.
Not specifically an episode; it’s a “music video.” Plays fine in my desktop media player. MKVToolNix shows no chapter info. But, neither do any of the specials that DO work. So, I copied a working special in the Shorts folder, and still nothing.
The question was whether there are any “regular” episodes of this show on your server. It won’t work without at least one regular episode that falls into either season 00 or any later seasons.
i.e. a show cannot consist of only extras/bonus content.
The specials do also only work if your library is using the modern metadata agent, i.e.
Scanner “Plex TV Series”
Agent “Plex Series”
The “legacy” agents didn’t have support for local extras at all.
Okay…I adjusted the TV Shows library to use the new Scanner and Agent as you instructed (that’s an option I never looked at before!). I then restarted the server. Still nothing for Shorts. I tried renaming the ‘Shorts’ folder to Featurettes just for kicks. No love here.
This has to be something simple and stupid on my part. Like a check box somewhere, or something. Oh, is there a Scanner and Agent setting somewhere at a higher level? Maybe it’s over-riding the TV Shows setting…?
Oh FFS! I guess scanning the library wasn’t the fix: Refreshing the Metadata was! Like I said, I knew it was going to be something stupid on my part. Thanks a mil, Tom! (And to everyone else who helped!).
