The default sorting for every library is sort by “Name”.
I wish I can change the default sorting to sort by “Release date” so I can see what are the newest movies in the first row.
For example, I added “Angry Birds” and “X-Men: Apocalypse” to the movie library on my server. Then I share my library to a new friend. and when my friend clicked into movie library. He won’t see the X-Men because it was sorted at the bottom of the library.
I can change that manually on my devices and that’s no problem.
However, this change is not carried over to other new clients like friend’s laptop browser or the iOS app.
So does anyone knows how to change the default sorting to sort by Release Date?
and sorry for the bad English. I am not a native English speaker.
I agree, this is needed. Please add default sort in the library settings of the server. I’d like to set a default sorting for a library so anyone who loads that library gets the default sort.
Why do you want to impose your preferences on others? If I opened up a library, and the default sort was different from A-Z, which would force me to change the sort order, I’d likely get annoyed after a while. If I want to change the sort myself, I have that option, but A-Z for day to day viewing is better than “Sort by anything else” because I may not know when “X-Men” was released, but I certainly know what letter it starts with…
Changing the sort manually is always an option but takes a few clicks. I want my movie library to show the most recently added movies first. Right now, anywhere I log in to Plex, I always have to change the sort. I want to set the sort for the library so it’s always loaded the way I want it. No extra clicks.
No no, that’s totally fine, and maybe I misunderstood your post, but you said:
If I was on your server, I would probably never visit it if this was the choice you forced on me, cause I wouldn’t like the searching/viewing experience…
So I agree, for a USER selectable sort order option, that’s totally fine. But I do not wish for a global server default option that affects all users connected to an individual server… that would not be beneficial in any way, imo.
Edit: Imagine having access to 9 different plex servers where all of them have a different preferred sort order that they impost upon their users… That would be a hellish nightmare.
But if you want your OWN default sort to apply to those 9 servers, and that only applies to YOU, then I am all for it
