Can i change the drive that plex uses for transcoding?

So I think i’m asking the right question. When my plex is used, it does everything on my C drive. I need to find a way, if it exists, to change the drive that it uses space on for playing etc. The server is on my D drive, but it still eats up my C drive when it does it’s thing.

Edit - If I can make plex store everything in the folder below elsewhere I think that will do what I want.

file:///C:/Users/Rob/AppData/Local/Plex%20Media%20Server/Plug-in%20Support/Databases/

Thanks in advance!

Settings > transcoder

Yea, I’ve tried doing stuff there and no changes took. I was hoping someone who had successfully changed the directory for everything could tell me how they did it and got it to stick.

So six years ago, this looks like the fix i’d have needed: https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/2j8jhq/what_if_i_delete_contents_of_the_metadata/

I cannot figure out the equivalent of it now.

sounds you are asking for 2 different things.

moving the transcoder folder is as simple as that setting.

moving the plex DATA folder, is something else entirely different.

Okay, I might be. So I think the second thing is my bigger problem tbh. I’ve looked for the “The Path where Local Application Data is Stored general server setting” and can’t find that listing anywhere. Did they change the name in recent updates?

I do not have a “general server setting” that I can find. Here’s a screen cap of my console with a followup of the settings/general tab. I’ve looked through every option so am not sure what I’m missing:

The setting to which that article refers has been removed due to security concerns. You can however still relocate your Plex data folder using the instructions in this how-to:

Be sure to read the entirety of the first post, all the way through the addendum.

Thanks! I’ll look that over tomorrow after i get home from school (i’m a teacher now!) If i have more questions i’ll post them then.

This seems to have been what I needed! I truly appreciate the help!

No problem, glad it worked.
