Can I "Encourage" Remote Clients to Try "Original" instead of Defaulting to Transcoding?

Server Version#: 1.29.1.6276
Player Version#: Any

It seems most/all clients default to some modest bit-rate for remote video. This, of course, results in two things:

  1. The resulting video is not the highest quality.
  2. The server has to transcode the video/audio.

In my scenario — and I’m guessing in that of many people these days — I have plenty of upstream bandwidth, so I’d like to “encourage” anyone streaming from me to at least try to do it at full bitrate. That would result in less load on my server and a better video experience for them.

Right now the only way to accomplish this is to walk people through the minutia of their Plex client settings just to set everything to 'Original". What I’d love is a way to tell my server “hey, make them try not transcoding first and then if that fails, fine, transcode it for them.”

In other words, I’d like to have the server participate in this decision instead of just leaving it up to the client.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Thanks, @JaysPlex … I agree with the snippet from the Feature Suggestion thread: insane this hasn’t been implemented yet. :man_facepalming:
