Can I force plex to download codecs again?

I updated plex after something close to 2 years of not doing so. Cant play anything any more as I keep getting codec errors. I have been reading google and threads here and believe my codecs have been corrupted somehow in the update. Is there any way to wipe them and force a new download? Getting plex to analyse the media did not help.

Running freenas. Currently replacing a hard drive ill try this tomorrow should be easy to find the folder. Will report back after.

Found the only directory in this jail named Codecs in /plexdata/Plex Media Server/Codecs/

It doesnt not contain .so files just an empty directory and a file. The file called .device-id contains a single line the id itself. The directory is empty and its name is made up of part of the id -freebsd-x86_64.

Any advice or it might just be quicker to remake the jail. I wont lose the media just some of the info on what has been played before.

If nothing is there, its likely PMS is failing to download the files or there’s a permissions issue, Logs would be helpful here to figure out what’s going on.

I just gave up and remade the jail. It was way faster. Installed plex again took like 4 commands. Thanks for the help seems to be working now. You are probably right permissions were screwy after updating a version that had been left for about 3 years without an update. Its still downloading meta data and pictures etc. but I was able to play on remote devices. Thank you.

@trumpy81 Just for clarity, FreeNAS is BSD, not Linux.

@matdify I’m presuming you’ve kept FreeNAS up to date. A LOT has changed in three years. Every major version change (and after the coming 11.2 also if you didn’t use iocage) it is best practice to re-create the jail if it’s not going to be a nightmare to do so. While it’s not always necessary, the migrations they have to do with each base system update sometimes leave jails partially out of date and not functionally at their best.
