Can I make my own Metadata files and tell Plex only to pull from there?

I know this is a topic that has come up before, so feel free to point to a place with a full answer. All the ones I have found do not have a solution that I like. I fear that means Plex does not allow it.

I have a lot of content music albums, tv shows, and movies that Plex scrubbers get partially or wholly incorrect. The worst is with tv shows since I cannot manually tell it episode number. Part of the problem I face is that some of the data cannot be set in the front end, the other issue is the time it would take to do so.

I simply want to create my own metadata file(s) and tell Plex to pull the data from there. Is there anyway to do this?

In short, no, not natively. The only thing Plex will take from a local metadata info file (typically a file with the extension ‘.nfo’) is an IMDB tt number in order to match a movie.

There is a third-party agent that might be of use. I haven’t used it, so I don’t know if it still works, or how easy it is to set up or use. It may only work if you used .nfo files created by Kodi (formerly XBMC).

There are a couple of feature requests to add .nfo support. This one has the most votes. You may want to add your vote.

Thank you for the quick reply,
Definitely adding my vote. It is super annoying to be limited to a few websites that don’t ways have the best info, or correct info.

Do you have any links on how to use .NFO to pull data from IMDB? They’re data might at least be better. I will also try the getting the data from Kodi, I have used them on my linux systems before.

I’ve never looked into this much, so I don’t have any info on it. Sorry.
