Local standalone metadata file

Server Version#: Drobo
Player Version#: 1.31.1.2262-74fdc6b7

I’ve been searching the web to confirm if plex has the option to load metadata from a purpose built file containing all the metadata relating to that particular file (or collection of files, specifically music) that can be dropped into the same directory as the media files but no luck.

The metadata that plex does download from servers or extract from the files is not accurate enough and I end up having to edit the metadata individually ever time I rescan the library which is getting really old, really fast.

Where can I make a ‘like-to-have-feature’ request?

Plex on its own doesn’t handle such local metadata files.
There are however some 3rd party agents that can be used for that purpose – e.g. GitHub - gboudreau/XBMCnfoMoviesImporter.bundle

There’s an existing feature suggestion to provide native support for nfo files. You can vote/comment in that thread.

As for creating feature suggestions yourself, please post those in the Feature Suggestions category (though we’ll appreciate if you search for existing suggestions before “blindly” creating a duplicate that will cause votes/attention to be distracted/dispersed)

Thanks Ninja!

I did read about these nfo files but looked like they didn’t support audio/music files but it’s a step in the right direction. It’s got my vote! Thansk buddy…

The normal case is to embed metadata into your audio files.
Add the cover art as a “sidecar” jpg file into the same folder, named cover.jpg.
This allows you to add all beasic information, except the album description.

Keep in mind that Plex cannot read metadata from some audio file formats, like WAV, MKA, or AIFF.
