It strikes me as a little odd that the metadata goes into ~/Library/Application Support folder instead of /Users/Shared/Library/Application Support. I know that I can probably put it there and then set an alias in ~/Library/Application Support, but there could be permissions issues with that little hack.
I’m asking because I’d like to keep my personal account as purely admin and then have Plex in an account accessible to me or my family. Thanks for any tips.
The server is only looking in that location for the PMS folder. on a Mac a Symbolic link/alais would be the way to move it someplace else.
I’m not sure what that has to do with where metadata is saved. There is generally no reason to edit anything in there unless you doing admin actions to the server like restoring a database back up. There is more than metadata in the PMS folder. Of course I may be misunderstanding something.
Thanks! While it would still make more sense for the data to go into the /Users/Shared area or even into the main /Library/Application Support, there’s at least a workaround.
And yes, I do understand there’s a lot more than metadata in there. Perhaps a better way to describe it is “that giant glob of stuff that Plex uses”
I’m not likely to do much/any editing of metadata, although I do admit that I’d like to get rid of all the Rotten Tomatoes stuff. Even when I specify IMDB, I still get it. Not a stopper by any means, but we really don’t need recommendations for a library we put together ourselves.
Again, thanks so much for your quick response. I’ve had Plex for several years on a QNAP NAS and it’s worked well. But that little Intel Celeron is out of gas. It’s more fun to be putting it together on a Mac.
