Can I see how much bandwith my LG TV uses while streaming?

Server Version#: 1.22.1.4228-724c56e62
Player Version#: LG 5.12.1 - webOS 3.9.0

Hey, everyone. I have a 75 Mbps connection at home and I get around 70 Mbps of download speed on PC via an ethernet cable. Although my LG smart TV is also connected to the internet via ethernet, I get around 50 Mbps using both speedtest.net through the internal web browser and a speed test app by LG.

I want to know why I get different results on different devices although they are both connected via ethernet. Is there any chance that the speed testers on the TV get it wrong? If so, can I see how much bandwidth Plex uses while streaming a, let’s say, 4K movie to have an idea on my download speed?

Depending on the answer, I may consider upgrading my modem router, but I’m not sure if it will help, either. Thanks in advance!

When it comes to networking, there’s a lot of factors.
Could be some parallel activities that were using bandwidth while you were testing, could be a limitation of your TV. Vendors are known to use LAN ports with limited bandwidth. You could check if you get a better bandwidth by using the tv set’s WLAN instead.

As I don’t have a modem router that supports dual band technology, I cannot test it correctly if I can get a better performance. However, I can stream a 4K Remux movie flawlessly on my local Plex server on my LG TV which is connected via ethernet.

Do these informations give you any idea why I get a lower speed on TV?

without further details, my money is on some parallel activities while you were scanning/testing your internet bandwidth.

btw… are you even streaming from the internet / from a remote server? otherwise the internet download speed should be 100% irrelevant when it comes to streaming content from your local Plex Media Server to your local Plex client on the LG…

I stream from both a remote server and a local one.
When streaming from the local server, a high bitrate 4K Remux file can playback without buffering. In order to do that, the bandwidth between the TV and the modem router must be above 50 Mbps. So, this knowledge should clear out any modem or ethernet related problems, right?

Another thing is, I can stream such a high bitrate file on PC from a remote server with no or less buffering than streaming on TV. That’s what eats my brain. I can’t figure out the speed difference between devices that are connected to the modem in the same way.

There was no paralel activity while testing. The only device connected to the modem was the TV.
