Can I start over on my new computer or should I fix my problem server and move it?

Years ago a friend told me about Plex and I put it on my laptop to check it out. I had a terrible internet situation at an apartment and ended up deleting Plex because I didn’t think I needed it. Years later at my new house, I have my own internet which is not great but it works and now Plex really seems like a great asset. I decided to try the Plex Pass for a year and re-install Plex to the laptop. I had tons of problems. I wanted a fresh start but Plex said my email had a server already and the computer ended up having a lot of Plex stuff still on it after I thought I had deleted it all. With lots of help from sa2000 (THANK YOU!), I got Plex back on and working. But later I realize everything only half works half the time my smart tv app can’t find the server half the time, the server won’t start at startup even though that setting is selected, I only have remote access for an hour or so, and live tv says it finds 11 channels but then won’t let me watch or record them. The laptop I have the server on sucks and it always has, sometimes it goes to sleep and won’t wake back up. I have to kill the power and restart it and I figure that causes a lot of problems for plex. I have bought a new desktop purely for the purpose of using it as a plex server and connecting my external hard drive with all of my content to it. Before I renew my plex pass or get a lifetime pass I would like to have it working correctly. Can/should I install a fresh new server to the new computer or should I troubleshoot my current one through these forums and fix the old server then transfer it to the new computer. I really like the idea of starting over fresh on the new system, If that is possible I need a little direction on how to go about it.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Firstly please use some paragraphs. A wall of text is so hard to read :grinning: no one cares if the paragraphs are dramatically correct

So firstly a Server on a laptop if the worst possible option so congrats on the upgrade.

Then clean install is always good, but if you really wanna copy the server settings over from the previous install is fairly easy and is covered in the guides…Which I would link to but it’s kinda late here and difficult on mobile.

If you’re still not sure please feel free to PM me. J have a few free days coming up and more the happy to give you the proper links and help you go about this if required.

Thank you, for both of your "firstly"s I will work on the paragraphing. I don’t post to forums but once in a blue moon so I am a bit inexperienced.

I remember when I tried to reinstall Plex on the old laptop the 2nd time, that I ran into issues and was not able to install a new server. Instead I had to reinstall the old server that I deleted and recover the old server.

If that has changed and I can delete a server from my account and start new on the new computer than that is what I will do. Is that a self explanatory process? If not not I may need assistance.

Yeah If you prefer a fresh install you should be totally fine.
I would have no idea why previously it wouldn’t allow you to do this, although making sure the old one is disabled would probably help as by default they would both install on the same port.
