Title is pretty straight forward. For a few movies I own, I have a couple of different copies, some with audio commentaries that were on blu-ray or dvd and then a 4k version, stuff like that. Is there a way to switch between these copies without having to split between them, without having to go to play version this may be my answer, but when I do that, it automatically plays the movie, I haven’t figured out a way to just have it switch to the version I want and stay. Thanks!
That’s the way to go
Thanks Tom as usual :). Will it stick to that version after I play it as in, once I select that version if I got back to the app, that will be the version “selected”.
That’s a good question and to be fair I don’t know. I’ll need to check when I get home (mostly moved my different editions to a different library and basically have no different quality versions left)
thanks man I appreciate it. I guess I could test it out myself, but don’t really know a good way to do that. Not quite an expert in all this yet.
It should, but like Tom I can’t really confirm that - I have so few doubles.
I can tell ya - the version that’s displayed - is the version that’ll play if you
don’t do anything. <—and what you do doesn’t affect other accounts - only yours.
Doesn’t seem to remember what version you played last. To me it seems like the player opts for the best available version/quality (not sure on what exact criteria; e.g. resolution vs. bitrate…).
At least that’s what I get in my example based on the short Sintel which Blender made available in a 1080p and 4K version (basically my only 4K movie).
- Files are named:
shorts / Sintel (2010) / Sintel (2010) - 1080p.mkvshorts / Sintel (2010) / Sintel (2010) - 4K.mkv
- The preplay screen is showing the characteristics of the 4K file
- video:
4K - audio:
English (AC3 5.1) - subtitles:
English (SRT)
- video:
-
Play Versionhas sorted the files as- 10.6 Mbps (=1080p file)
- 40.6 Mbps (=4K file)
I get the same sequence (1080p -> 4K) in the Get Info dialog.
Thanks for looking into it. Maybe make a post in the features request board?
You can do that… not sure you’ll find many followers.
There’s a number of feature suggestions in that area – some focusing on better handling of different movie editions / cuts, some on improving the information shown on the Play Version selector.
Most are ok with the fact that you see a movie record – not the record for a specific file
If one would apply logic, sheez, thanks! Did you even read my original comment… The whole reason I wanted to do this was not to run the “fat version”, nice technical term there guy. The reason I wanted to do this was because I have some rips with audio commentary and some rips that are 4k of the same film and I like to listen to audio commentaries and a few other setups that are similar to that setup. If one were to apply logic, one could easily not skim thru a post and actually see that’s what I originally said…
