Hi
I was wondering if it is possible to setup a plex server on a local nettwork without internett for 49users.
so question is
will I be able to get this up and running?
if so what would be the hardware needed to make sure this is working,
what standalone player would be reccomanded,
Getting Plex running without internet is tricky to impossible.
Best client would be the Shield, because it Direct Plays virtually anything (best not the tube one). And you want Direct Play. Makes 49*200$= ~10,000 $ total.
The rest depends on how many concurrent plays you have and what quality your files are. If you have 10 Mbit/s 1080p files and all 49 play at the same time, you need at least Gigabit network, which is doable.
If your files reside on HDDs (not SSDs), a read speed of 80 MB/s (average HDD speed) would be sufficient to serve all 49 users at once I think (dunno if I did the math right: 10*49/8).
If you have higher quality files and/or a lot of transcodes, things will get messy. But how high are chances, that all 49 playback at the same time?
