Hey guys,
Got some new 4K content and my Android TV client is trying to transcode it.
Plex transcoding HEVC to H264
Plex transcoding TRUEHD to EAC3
How can I force direct play? Or do I need to convert it to something else?

Yes, assuming all components in your chain support it. Which Android TV do you have? Does your AVR support TrueHD and does it pass 4k to your 4k TV? Are all the settings correct to allow this to happen (4k and TrueHD enabled in the ATV device?).
Hey thanks for getting back.
It’s a Bravia X9000e
I used the inbuilt DLNA and tried VLC and it worked fine, so I know it can be done on the TV. How to force Plex to do it though?
you dont have to force plex to play 4k movies, all you do is hit play, least thats how mine works.
Also, make sure you have any codecs required to play the content you are trying to play, such as hevc.
Go to your movies tab on plex, top left where it says “all movies and by title” click all and go to resolution, then select 4k, it will show all the 4k titles you have atm, i currently only have 8.
Thanks for that.
So the issue is, if I try to play through Plex, it transcodes the files to:
Plex transcoding HEVC to H264
Plex transcoding TRUEHD to EAC3
But I know the TV can play the codecs, because I can direct play them though the built in DLNA player. Its just Plex with the issue. So how can I stop plex from trying to transcode?
