Can Plex store the information about a corrected match?

Server Version#: 4.128.1
Player Version#: I play via the server?

Maybe I overlooked the answer, then sorry!
Some films are not recognised despite correct naming and year or nfo file (from tinyMediaManager) and sometimes Plex expects a release year that differs from what believe is right, so about 5% of the media that I add I have to match manually. That would be OK, if Plex would store this information with the files. Is that possible and if how? In addition I sometimes split an entry into two (one is the directors cut one is the theatrical) also these cases I would love Plex to store somehow.

Thanks for tipps and answers.

Plex doesn’t care about .nfo files.

Include the ID number of IMDb or TheMovieDB in the file/folder name to “force” a match.

That’s what Editions were introduced for. (Plex Pass required)

Thanks for the partial answer. However: i tried tmdb IDs and it often didn’t work.

So I guess the answer is: plex will not do anything to alter the video files names or to add a file in order to recognize the film the next time it scans it? (This will mostly not be needed, only recently I replaced a harddrive and had to rescan and all the manual info was gone)

Show how you did it. This is supposed to work 100% – unless you are trying to force a match of a tv show in a “movie”-type library or vice versa.

If it works 100% then there can be no failure, thanks.

One last time: is it possible to answer my initial question, maybe someone less focussed on proving that I am wrong but who simply wants help out by answering: is it possible that Plex saves the manually made matches in the library, so that it can be found again without changing the files myself?

No, Plex Media Server will not modify your media files in any way (rename, add/remove metadata, etc.). Nor will it write any data files (.nfo, .xml, or similar) to the file system along side the media files to use in future attempts to match the files.

Having said that, can you provide a concrete example of a file with which you’ve had issues matching, showing the folder structure the file lives in and its naming? PMS does make mistakes in matching, but it’s nowhere near 5% of the time, as long as proper naming and folder organization are used (at least in non-contrived examples). And in these cases, there are tools (.plexmatch file, using the metadata provider ID in the filename) that can help force a match.

It is not possible. Otherwise I would have told you so, instead of suggesting to avoid those mismatches right from the beginning.

wow great service and manners. you are the last person that should work as a “moderator”. It’s been a while since I had someone as openly passive aggressive as you.

thank you very much for your concise answer. 5% was about my impression. I can fix these by hand, it only would be so much nicer if the matching tool could be used for also fixing the names, since it is pretty fast. But, OK, I’ll get along.

I think “editions” is the only plexpass feature I actually use

      Blade Runner (1982) {edition-Director's Cut}.mp4
      Blade Runner (1982) {edition-Final Cut}.mp4
