There’s already an existing suggestion discussing the addition/extension of gesture support, incl. an option to swipe to scrub fast forward/backward. Please comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.

Please consider adding gesture support when playing a movie on the device or using the iphone/ipad as a remote.   I often find myself struggling to hit the play/pause buttons when in a hurry.   I've seen gestures successfully implemented in a number of other ios app. This is what I was thinking for Plex:   Gestures would work anywhere on the screen, either on top the playing video, or over the cover art when using device as a remote.
