Can purchased downloaded movies from Vudu be played on Plex?

I have ALWAYS purchased physical discs for all my content, but now I’m wondering about purchasing movies through Vudu. Is there a way to purchase a movie through Vudu, download it to an external drive, and then play it back on Plex? If this is feasible, I’m wondering if it would save $, time, etc instead of running the disc through MakeMKV.

Thanks for any help or insight anyone could provide.

If movies from Vudu have DRM encryption, then no, Plex won’t be able to play them.

If they do, wouldn’t you be able to run the file through MakeMKV to make it Plex playable?

I have no idea. And, depending on where you are, all this may be illegal.

No.

MakeMKV can handle the encryption on DVDs & Blu-rays. It cannot break DRM from Vudu, iTunes, etc.

There are applications that claim to be able to break DRM. It seems what they really do is just capture video (ex: play movie in iTunes then somehow intercept & capture the video). No idea if it really works.

I don’t believe you can do this without circumventing. I have purchased quite a few high quality HDX format from VUDU. The only way for me to watch it on any sort of physical media, is to download VUDU’s video player. As @FordGuy61 said earlier, if there are no DRM breakers, you’d need to screen record it, which would mean your quality will be reduced (not to mention any DTS & DD sound would be lost). Sorry.
