The wording of the privacy policy makes it sound like I can opt out of logging of (some) metrics when I connect to my own server.
The wording of the privacy policy makes it sound like I cannot opt out of logging of metric when I connect to a remote server.
The consequence of this is that even if I opt out, and my remote users opt out, my remote users are still sending Plex metrics about my server.
In effect, there is no way to opt out of metrics sharing.
This seems to fly totally in the face of the supposed changes to the policy, and in no way whatsoever does it fix the concerns people had.
Can we get some clarification on this please? Is the opt out just for local connections to servers we own? Or does it apply to all servers a user connects to?
The Plex Client obeys the opt-out rules of the server owner (Admin Account). If the server owner has opted out then any user streaming from that server automatically opts out while streaming from that server (local or remote).
Any companies who don’t offer this, and who trade in these areas, could face very high fines, in some cases, the fines may bankrupt the company.
I think the new Privacy Policy from Plex could possibly would breach the GDPR terms, so would be good if Plex checked this, and made sure that they were compliant?

This is not at all clear from the privacy policy, which implies something very different. What is your source on this information?

I asked a similar question in a different topic but I’m happy echo your sentiments. I look forward to Plex’s official stance regarding GDPR.

Is this the case? That would make a lot of people happy I think if it is… and also if it is, why was that never shared? Where did you get this information from?? Im not questioning you but I am curious where you got this as I have not seen it anywhere and it would be great… “plex news”! B)
I would love to provide you a link to the info but I have not yet found it in the policy.
This was info provided by the Plex Team when I asked the same question

Hopefully someone at Plex can jump in and explain how thing really work.

Don’t wait for a response. We already explained GDPR to the Plex guys back in August. They didn’t understand back then and were not able to participate in a meaningful conversation other than “yeah yeah, we’ll honor it”, so I don’t assume they will answer now.

My question is not about GDPR, it’s about if remote users still send metrics about your server when both you and they’ve opted out of metrics gathering. According to the privacy policy, they do. That worries me. I’d wanting confirmation from Plex one way or another.

Don’t count on a response from @Plex in here. They’re abiding by the famous song text:
“I’m not deaf, I’m just ignoring you”.
Come May 20, you can send an email to plex and ask for all information they have stored on you, and how they handle your data, who has access , where is it stored +++ .

I already sent a message through contact us to their Lawyers that I wanted all information they collected on me for the last Month. In the message template it states they can take up to 90 days for a reply.

I am pretty sure that GDPR allows for allot less time than 90 days. Where I live they have to by law comply within 30 days.
What is also interesting is that i see someone mention opt-out,
well study that opt-out page and from what i gather you only opt-out of server settings and playback data NOT all the other data.
It would be nice this gets really clarified.
What can we actually opt-out of and what cant we ?
What is still always being sent to plex ?
We were promised a page that displays everything what is being send (the famous privacy tab).
All i gather right now is that it has become very obscure this entire privacy debacle and that is not a good thing.

There you go. Under optional playback data is the stuff you can opt out of. Most of the data collection cannot be turned off.
I like how they are hiding the checkbox on an info page…
Edit: “If you opt-out of sending us playback data, we will also stop sending the data described in the Server / Library section above.”
so forgive me, but after going over that page, it seems like there is not that much information being collected. nothing that could identify your media that is (i dont see how it could from that list, maybe I am wrong). Does this mean that if you uncheck that box then all is “ok”. I understand plex is still collecting usage statistics to some point even if so (I think I have this right), and although I don’t LOVE any of my data being collected when I watch my own personal media on my own personal server it SEEMS like it really is not anything “really bad”… or did I totally take the wrong thing away from that?
