Can someone please explain what this is? "(Collections) Promoted smart collection filtering based on selected user (#12605)"

In the most recent Plex server update there is a new item:
" * (Collections) Promoted smart collection filtering based on selected user (#12605)"

Does anyone know what this is exactly?

Thanks

From what I understand, smart collections you’ve configured to be displayed on the home screen of your friends will now consider your friends’ environment.

Example:

  • you create a smart collection “Favorite Movies” that contains all movies rated with 5 Stars
  • Previously: your friends saw all the movies YOU had rated with 5 stars
  • New: your friends will see all movies of that library THEY have rated with 5 stars

I suppose this will also apply to other user based criteria like

  • Plays
  • Last Played
  • Unplayed
  • In Progress

though I haven’t tested this yet.

This is selectable for each smart collection separately.
Look in the properties of the collection.

Ah… that’s an important addition

:pencil2: (collection) > Advanced > Collection filtering based on

  • Always the server admin user
  • User currently viewing the content

Thanks for all the replies! I’m very excited about the addition. This will allow for some interesting custom hubs.

The item count under the collection poster when viewed from the library/collection tab is still the number of items from the admin’s filters. Clicking on the collection and looking at the collection page shows the correct number of items for the individual user.
