Can’t use Plexamp well in multi room environment - Need option to use AirPlay 2 instead of AirPlay 1

I love Plexamp and want to use it all the time however it doesn’t work well with multi room audio.

I have a pretty decent UniFi network with excellent WiFi coverage but AirPlay 1 just does not work well in a multi room environment.

I have a mix of Sonos and HomePod speakers so unfortunately things need to be initiated from the Apple side of things ie AirPlay to reach all rooms / speakers.

From what I understand Plexamp still uses the AirPlay 1 protocol by design but I would love the option to enable AirPlay 2 protocol so that I can use Plexamp reliably with multi room audio.

I appreciate there are some tradeoffs but I just want it to work reliably.

If you have a Mac, AirFoil from Rogue Amoeba might provide a solution for you.

That’s definitely an option. I tried it years ago but haven’t looked at recently but I mainly use the iOS app on the phone / iPad.

I use Airfoil daily. It works quite well but I am using either Apple Airport Express devices or Airfoil Satellite (iOS app to play and control volume to each device including playback through iOS)

There is a trial available, I believe 10 minute sessions, but the cost is minimal for the job it does well.

I run Plexamp on the computer and Plexamp on the iphone/ipad to remotely control Plexamp running on the computer so that Airfoil has an active sound source.
