I haven’t used Plex in a couple of years. We recently experienced an extended internet outage and I was disappointed that we couldn’t access the Plex Media Server local content from the Plex app on Roku. It said I needed to upgrade, so I just did that.
To test Offline Mode, I just unplugged the internet from my router. The thumbnails for my local content appear on the Plex app home screen but when I try to play any of the local content, I get the following error msg: "Sorry, we couldn’t load the requested content"
This topic comes up occasionally. This how-to provides some guidance as to how to configure your server and clients to remain functional in the event of an Internet service outage:
Thanks. What I was missing was to specify that the LAN IP address range is “allowed without authorization” (PMS → Settings/Network tab). BTW, I wasn’t sure what the last entry in the author’s LAN address list was for (i.e., 127.0.0.1/2) so I omitted that.
I had a problem with the Roku Plex app immediately trying to populate the menu with external content, and wouldn’t let me get past the ‘unable to connect’ screen. I was finally able to resolve this by going back online and unchecking “Remember Selected Tab” under Settings / Experience, and then removing any external content from my Home screen. There may be a more elegant way to do this, but I never use Plex to watch non-local content anyway.
