The current setup is Plex Media Server running on a Synology 1515+ through a Netgear GS724T v4 used as a switch (intranet) and then through the AT&T Modem, Firewall, DHCP router to internet. Added port 32400 Allowed ports, no forwarding at this point.
Settings - Server - Remote Access - Manually specify public port - 32400
You do need to Port Forward from your router to your NAS. It will not magically find its way to it on an inbound connection from Plex (how Remote Access works) since it appears UPnP doesn’t work on your
I strongly advise you give all local LAN devices static IP or minimally DHCP MAC reserved IP addresses to guarantee the Port Forward rule is always valid.
Avoid Jumbo Frames. It mucks up the works.
Tried that and it is still not connecting. What do you have to do in the Synology NAS to allow this to work?
I finally got it to work by going through the EZ-Internet using a direct connection with a public IP address and that worked.
I’ve recently moved Plex Media Server from my Mac Mini (which is always running a VPN) to my NAS, a Synology 916+, specifically to get remote access working. But for some reason it always connects indirect.
The NAS itself goes straight out my router. No VPN involved in its connection. I’ve manually set a port for Plex Remote Access to use, 52400, and on my router I’ve set up port forwarding so that any connections on 52400 get forwarded to my NAS’s IP address on port 32400.
In Plex, if I go to Remote Access, it shows everything as working, but when I try to connect remotely it always creates an indirect connection, never a direct connection.
I’d love some help in fixing this up so I can get the greater speed offered by a direct connection. Please let me know what if any logs or tests you’d like me to do to get this sorted out.

Indirect connections work.
Synology firewall has the following ports explicitly allowed:
TCP 3005,8324,32400,32469
UDP 1900, 5353, 32410, 32412, 32413, 32414
Public IP address shown in Plex under “Remote Access” which I’ve blocked out in the screenshot matches the external IP address shown to me by my router.
