Server Version#: 1.23.3.4707
I/m not sure if I’m overlooking something simple, but I recently ran into an issue where some newly added films error when adding to a collection. The movies in question are:
Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers, Little Fockers.
I added them to my library about two hours ago. No thumbnail generation or anything is running, and they immediately error out when I attempt to create a collection with any of them.
-
activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
- quit Plex Server
- wait 1 minute
- start Plex Server
- wait 5 minutes
-
fetch log files and attach them here
Or inspect them yourself. Take a look at the Plex Media Server.log file and seek for messages about database corrupt or malformed.
If you find these, you may have to repair your database.
No sign of those keywords in that 5 min timeframe. Appreciate the expertise!
Edit: I’m redoing this. I read that as Enable Verbose Logging…
9:01A Stopped PMS
9:05A Started PMS
9:09A Attempted to create a collection twice with two different movies
It looks like there is no database damage. That’s a good thing.
Which Plex client did you use to set the collection tag?
Was it https://app.plex.tv ? If not, try again using this ← client.
I’m using the Web client from local LAN to the local Plex server. V4.57.4
Strange thing is that I had no trouble making ~15 collections last night, then all of a sudden it started erroring.
Edit: app.plex.tv does the same thing:

Are you trying to add them to existing collections or are trying to make new ones?
Are these Smart collections (i.e. defined by library filters) or are these classic, manually created ones?
Make sure you never try to maka a smart collection of the same name as an existing classic collection (and vice versa).
I’m attempting to make new ones. Should be standard collections.
How many colections do you have in this library at the moment?
Can you access the Collections tab of this library without error?
Have you tried to switch it off and on again?
I have 28 collections at the moment. The tab is fully functional.
Do you mean reboot the server itself? I can do that.
EDIT: Reboot did not help
I’m still at a loss here. I emptied the trash and that fixed one issue with another collection, but I can’t figure out what is wrong with the “Meet the Parents” movies that refuse to go into a new collection.
The movies stream fine and I can’t find anything in the logs.
Do they error out as well if you edit them individually?
Yes. I also tried making a few new collections with other random movies and the only thing that seems consistent is that some new adds seem to error.
It’s strange though. I added about ~60 movies over the last few days, most from that batch went into collections fine the same day. Meet the Parents just refuses.
Could you fetch the content of the Plex XML info of this movie?
XML is looking perfectly ordinary.
Are you using any browser add-ins?
Yes, general ad blockers and a few other things.
Disable them all, then try again.
Tried it with everything off in Chrome and also in Firefox (I hardly use FF for much)
Edit: For whatever reason I was able to create the collection. Not sure what was interacting with it, but I’m leaning towards a ublock origin issue. Not sure why FF would have had the same issue though.
Ok, well the issue came back.
Added the Matrix movies, scanned the library, tried to add them into a collection. Same error. Oddly enough, I added the Austin Powers movies and they go in fine.
Tried it on a Mac, an fresh install Ubuntu laptop, and my work pc on Chrome. Same error.
Here’s where it gets really weird. I created “The Matrix Collection” using Aladdin, then added in the Matrix movies. No issues.
@OttoKerner @ChuckPa Figured I’d tag you as well since I haven’t been able to fix this.
One other thing I’ve noticed is that if I scan my library to add new movie additions, then empty the trash a few minutes later, PMS clears the movies from the majority of my collections. The collections and their posters are still set, but they’re empty or are missing multiple titles that still exist in the library. The movies do not have the collection tags either.
