Cannot, cannot, cannot get Plex to be visible by my Apple TV or iPhone locally

Windows server. Up and running but remote access is not working properly. It appears to work for a while and then stop - on the LOCAL network

Port is 32400. Router has UPnP. And there is a port forward for TCP 32400. All was fine until a Windows Plex upgrade (I think). But, my laptop can see the server and stream. My phone cannot and Apple TV cannot. Extremely weird. Windows firewall is OFF. Server logs are attached.

If anyone has any idea what is going on I would be eternally grateful. I have tried everything I can think of. Removed and reinstalled server, all apps, rebooted network etc.

Is this a problem with local or remote access?

Remote access is not needed for for devices on your local network.

  1. Verify the network configuration of the server:
  • IP Address
  • Netmask
  • Default Gateway

The server is configured with a /22 mask (255.255.252.0). Most networks using 192.168.x.y addresses have a /24 mask (255.255.255.0).

  1. Verify the network is private, not public.
    Settings → Network & Internet → Status → Properties.

  2. In Plex Media Server Settings → Network → Preferred network interface, specifically choose the Ethernet port (instead of Any).

  3. Stop Plex Media Server

  4. Reboot the server.

That looks like the eero default subnet & mask, it might be normal on other systems too.

I agree with the recommendation to check network settings. Are the Apple TV and the Phone also getting network addresses in the 192.168.4.0 - 192.168.7.255 range?

I see a VPN interface. Are you using a VPN, is the VPN active, does the VPN block local network traffic, or filter DNS requests?

Do you have any other network security software or DNS filtering? There are a few DNS lookup failures and connection errors.

If you are using eero, do you have the security/filtering/adblock stuff active? Try disabling it. I believe it has DNS rebinding filtering by default.

@FordGuy61 I don’t think changing Preferred network interface will help. I think it bound to the right network interface already. I think that setting only changes how the server advertises to plex.tv when there are multiple interfaces. (Not that choosing Ethernet will hurt.)

Agree. Not necessary since there is only one interface.

Just me being overly cautious (or A.R., but the forum won’t let me write the “A word”)
