Cannot connect after upgrading to 1.18

I was thinking about that massive backup we did and how it contains a lot of what is metadata like thumbnails, but it’s your master database file that’s new. I don’t think the master db file matches the vast metadata you have. But I could be wrong.

I’d like to proceed by investigating what we’ve created before trying anything new.
Can you go into Settings - Show Advanced - Authorized Devices and find the little pull down filter at the top where you can make it say Server

Screenshot your authorized servers please. I want to make sure there aren’t several.

Let’s not work on your Libraries just yet.

Devices

Here are the servers. Looks like it does see two Plex servers on my NAS.

awesome. I saw someone do a quick fix on a problem just like yours in the forums the other day, where he used Reset Customization to get your login to forget about the wrong server gracefully, which returned his system to functionality.

I think we need to search for recent posts about Reset Customization and Authorized Devices.

I did a quick search and came across this post.

Is this what you’re referring to?

Yes it is, but follow Otto’s directions closely. Resetting customization is much safer than deleting authorized devices, even if they might accomplish the same thing in the end.

I’m sorry it took so long. You might be just a couple of clicks away from it working.

Seems there are two web clients that I’m accessing.

When entering https://192.168.1.3:32400/web, then I come up with what I believe is the old interface (Plex Web 3.108.2):

When accessing it using the link Otto provided (https://app.plex.tv/desktop?&_ga=2.233435996.319384820.1571208225-150392438.1542194048#!/settings/devices/pms) it leads to the newer UNO interface.

The older interface did not give me the option to Reset Customization, while the newer one did. I went ahead and clicked Reset Customization. Now all I’m left with is an empty home screen. Looks like this may be the end of the road?

I think it’s working. Click More > and pin your libraries to your home screen?
This article linked in the other thread can be helpful.

Wait so you Reset Customization and confirmed, but you were not presented with the initial setup where it asked you to choose a preferred server and initial things to display as described in the article?

After clicking More > it then shows the two “servers” with a ! next to the other one. It doesn’t appear its seeing any libraries.

After clicking on Reset Customization, it did ask me to choose a preferred server, which I selected the most recent one. The “older” one was with Plex 1.18, which is not the current one installed on my server – I currently have 1.17 installed.

Reset again and choose the other one maybe.

The other one shows up as Unavailable. When selecting that one, it indicates that theres a problem connecting.

Ok I have appointments atm. I’ll try to find another user to help with this who has been through these types of issues now that we’ve narrowed down the situation.

If you did that, you database and metadata is gone, sadly

Simply click on the X on the server you want to remove (The 1.18.0.1913 I would guess)

Sadly, due to you tried to uninstall, they are most likely gone, and have to be recreated

But when all of the above is said, you also did say, that you ‘tried’ to uninstall, so does that mean you perhaps restarted your QNAP in the middle of the uninstall process?
Cuz if so, then the database backup’s might still be present

And for future ref, when I need to uninstall/start all over when I test something, I do the following:

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Rename Library directory to Library.old
  3. Start PMS again, and it’ll automatically create a new Library directory, with an empty database, and a PMS that is unclaimed

If I then wants to return to my old one, I stop PMS, and rename directories back again

OK I guess I will bite the bullet and start recreating everything from scratch. I made the mistake of following this thread Plex Server update 1.18.0.1892 fails to start - #2 by tootsmcgee and not realizing that it was Synology-specific and uninstalled. When I started the uninstall process, it took over an hr, and I my thought was that it crashed/hanged, which is why I restarted.

I followed nibbles instructions and tried to locate if there was a database backup – that didn’t appear to be the case. There were no additional databases with dates in the filename like nibbles had.

Thanks for the future reference. Hopefully I won’t need to use it, but will try to keep in mind.

Thank you nibbles and dane22 for trying to help me resolve this issue. Now back to months of fine tuning this collection again. :frowning:

That was due to it was deleting contents of the Library directory, that can contains millions of small files, so yes, do take a long time, and also why I prefer a simple rename of the Library directory. (You can then in a more controlled manner nuke it if needed from file station or ssh later on

So as I recreate, is it ideal to just remove the existing Library/metadata, and let it redownload from scratch, and not have all that data just laying around? Would that be done via the optimize database option?

Yes, since you currently have a half baked PMS, in a more or less unknown state
