Cannot connect to server (Windows 10)

Server Version#:1.25.3.5409-f11334058
Player Version#: Various

I’ve just installed Plex media server on my Windows PC, however, when I load Plex on the web browser (or on the iPhone app) it says my server is offline?

The computer is connected to the internet, no VPN active (I have ExpressVPN installed) but no matter what I do, I can’t seem to connect to my server.

Any ideas?

Can you open plex locally on the PC its installed on?

That’s the windows pc stated above. I’ve got Plex server installed, right click on the Plex icon in the dock (near the clock) and click Open Plex.

When it loads in Edge, it says it cannot connect to server.

You more than likely will need to port forward 32400 in your router. Please give that a try and report back.

The DNS resolver for your local network (usually in your router) has “DNS rebinding protection” activated.
Look if you find any settings in the router’s configuration related to that. If these exist, add the domain name plex.direct to the list of exceptions from that protection. detail info

Check the hosts file on this machine.
It must have NO entries related to plex. https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/27350/beginner-geek-how-to-edit-your-hosts-file/

Try different web browsers, I suggest Chrome or Firefox.

It is a bad idea to use WiFi on a Plex server.

You might have to deinstall that at least temporarily, because some of these tools still influence the network stack even if they are disabled.

Could this be related to the pi-hole I have running on my Raspberry Pi?

I have a current instance of Plex running in a Docker on an Unraid server and that can be accessed no problem, while on the same network?

I was attempting to move to this PC as it has Intel QuickSync.

Most certainly yes.
The Pi-hole acts as DNS resolver for your local network.

Uninstalling Express VPN seems to have done the trick.

Is there anyway I can make them play nice together?

Some VPN tools allow you to configure exceptions for certain apps which shall be not routed through the VPN.

Seems like I can get it to work when ExpressVPN is not connected (with Plex set as an exception), but doesn’t work at all when ExpressVPN is connected.
