Cannot disable SSDT

Server Version#:1.15.8.1198-eadbcbb45
Player Version#:irrelevant

See here.

I have disabled GDM discovery under network and everything else under the DLNA options. But according to strace (and tcpdump) plex is still sending SSDT requests, approximately every 10 seconds.
I am operating this server on the web so multicast is absolute nonsense.

i’m attempting to block it using iptables, but what is this? this behavior makes absolutely no sense.

SSDP is how Plex finds DLNA players and its clients on the multicast group.

that does not answer my question though, why is there no option to disable it? my clients are purely interacting with plex over its API, they are never on the local network with the server, so there is never anything to discover.

to clarify, my plex server is located in a data center (because upstream performance of typical home internet connections in my country is terrible) so this discovery mechanism is useless and i don’t understand why there’s no config flag for disabling it.

Were you to disable SSDP, you would disable how Plex finds its clients on your LAN.

With respect, If you are worried about 1 one-packet broadcast every 10 seconds, I would recommend not connecting other devices such as lighting. These will occupy your 2.4 Ghz radio band.

My problem is not SSDT on my LAN. My problem is that Plex sends a SSDT broadcast on a network interface that is connected to a data center, which means that any switch/router that forwards the packet or flags it means trouble.

This has nothing to do with a LAN in a home network.

As I understand VLANs in a datacenter, a properly configured port for that host will not allow uncontrolled / unexpected broadcasts from that host to reach the core LAN.
