Why Plex send SSDP (Simple Service Discovery Protocol) (DNLA)?

Server Version#: 4.74.2

Hello.

I contact you because I have a problem with the DLNA.

I disabled this one and despite everything, the server continues to send requests :

  • NetworkServiceBrowser: Error sending out discover packet from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX to 239.255.255.250: Operation not permitted

These requests are blocked by my firewall to avoid polluting the network.

Why does the server continue requests even though the DLNA setting is disabled?

How do I permanently disable DLNA?

Thank you for your help and for your explanations.

This isn’t so much related to DLNA but Plex looking for Plex apps or playback targets in your network.

You should be able to disable Settings > [Server Name] > Network > Enable local network discovery (GDM). I’m not 100% sure this will cease all communication… it’ll certainly limit the available functionality of your server.

Plex is also looking for network gateway devices using this method. And you can’t completely disable it with a server preference setting.

SSDP is also how Plex Media Server discovers network tuners (such as those from SiliconDust) on your local network.
