does not present the option to use HW acceleration when present?
Let’s make it reset the HW access. Did you recently get a DSM update? If so, it would explain why it’s not working.
The solution is simple (I account for it in the installer).
- Stop Plex
- Uninstall the package
- Restart DSM
- Install the package allowing it to start after installation.
This will write the HW access permissions again (which DSM does overwrite in some situations with updates)
Still a no go. Here is the file name of the package I’m installing.
PlexMediaServer-1.18.3.2129-41af4e729-aarch64.spk
You’re right. My apologies. I read DS218 and was thinking DS918.
The DS218, because it’s an ARMv8 CPU, has no hardware transcoding capability.
Only Intel QSV CPUs and nVidia GPUs have hardware capability at this time.
But other Synology apps are using hardware encoding. I wanted Plex because it supports more audio formats. So basically I wasted my money on a Plex pass since this is why I got it.
Synology has a proprietary hardware transcoding which operates with ARMv8 as well as has exclusive license with RealTek for the capability inside some of the chips.
We have attempted to obtain to obtain access as well but were refused.
Thank you for your efforts and explanation.
Have to change your NAS to DS718+ if you want to use HW Transcoding.
Synology doesn’t have a lot compatible NAS, usually just them with Celeron CPU.
