Cannot Enable Remote Access - fails after a few seconds

Server Version#:1.16.3.1402
Player Version#:

After expending all self help topics, I guess I’m just not savvy enough to make this work now. Remote access USED to work with no problem but since I’ve added a switch to my network, remote access no longer works.
I have a Netgear Nighthawk C7000 and yes, I have read ALL of the “how to port forward” articles. Unfortunately, even though I feel I am following the directions to a “T”, I still have no idea what I’m doing. And the result is that when I click on “Enable Remote Access” it goes green for a few moments and then back to red or “Not available outside your network”. I’ve played with the UPnP, I’ve set Secured Connections to “Required”, I’ve tried port forwarding as per the suggestions from clicking on “learn more”, and none of these seem to work.
When it worked before, I didn’t do anything special. I let Plex configure it automatically and it worked perfect for everyone I shared it with. Now, I can’t even access it from my phone!
Please help! I have basic computer knowledge and can follow directions well if written well.
Thank you!

Check canyouseeme.org for success on your port forwarding.

Thank you for the suggestion. I had already done that and received the okay. However, I did get a totally different IP address which I used in the router parameters but nothing changed.

Usually if you see a totally different IP that means you are in a CGnat situation but since it showed success that may not be the case.

Can you confirm with your ISP if you are in CGnat?

Yes, according to Spectrum, they are using a CGnat. I ran the test and my WAN shows a different IP address from my normal IP from whatsmyipaddress.com.
So now what do I do?

Pay for a public static IP from spectrum

Okay, thank you for your help!!

I had the same issue as you and the only way to solve it was to setup port forwarding in my router. See my post here: Plex Media Server 1.16.3.1402 has been sabotaged

Hope this helps.

Very helpfull!!! Thank you for your response. I’ll give that a try (Lol…DA…priceless)

There are numerous threads all across this forum describing this same exact issue and every mod and tech support person is just going off the script of the usual remote connection hitlist.

Something is going on with Plex itself!!!

Welcome to Plex’s “support”

Sadly, I’ve been here numerous times before!

SOLVED!!!
I’ve had this problem for ages and finally got to the bottom of it.
I had an Apple Airport router in my network.
When it was removed gradually devices started acting funny on the network.
Fast forward 8 MONTHS (at least) to today.
Discover my IP hadn’t enabled ipv4 in their router.
Done. MAGIC.
Everything is working again!!!

So call your provider and make sure ipv4 is enabled!!!

That might be an issue for those that rent routers from their ISP, but for people like me who own their routers they can check themselves. That said, IPV4 has always been enabled on my router so that’s not the issue for me.
