Just upgraded to the latest and Plex has stopped working. I can see the list of movies but if select a movie for playing, get an error:
“Playback Error
An Error Occurred Loading items to play”.
When a photo library is selected, I get an error "There was an unexpected error loading this library. " No details provided.
I’ve created a new test library pointing to a test folder with a single video file. I can see the video in that library so it was located fine but still get the same error when trying to play it. This happens on IE and Chrome and also on media players on IOS and LG smart TV, so I’m guessing it the server problem, not client.
I can’t spot anything useful in the com.plexapp.system.log file - the only file that’s updated when I try to play the video. All other log files updated some time in the morning and I’m not sure which one of them can give me a hint on what is actually going on.
Is it possible that the database was not upgraded to the new version properly? Is there any tool to run that can check the database?
Any suggestions on what to check would be really appreciated.
Thanks
The best way to diagnose is to recreate the error then go to Settings - Server - Help - Download Logs and attach the ZIP file it gives you here. We’ll take a look at what it’s complaining about
here’re the log files
Thanks for the logs. Unfortunately I have bad news. The database was corrupted. An abrupt system power-off which didn’t let the OS shut down cleaning has caused it.
If you had database backups enabled in Scheduled Tasks, you can attempt recovery of the backup copy (copy it into working position).
If your server was powered off when backups should have run and you have no backup, your only choice is to begin again.
Starting again means to 1) Stop PMS 2) Delete the data directory 3) Start PMS 4) create again as new
The recovery procedure is here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201100678-Repair-a-Corrupt-Database
Can you point me what made you think it was caused by power interruption? (I don’t think it was, but more on that later).
Do you see in the logs when the upgrade was done? For some reason, my back ups are named strangely. I’ve got several named com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-YYYY-MM-DD and they date back to 2015. Even though back up is enabled in the Scheduled Tasks, I don’t see any other back ups. I was checking here: C:\Users[my user]\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases Anywhere else I can check for them?
Also, do I also restore com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db or just com.plexapp.plugins.library.db?
