Thanks for the link, Nathan! That is so METAL.
I finally just ended up uninstalling plex server and rebuilding the server from scratch. Overall it did not take that long to do and it appears to have fixed the problem. Thank you very much for the help, MovieFan! I am sorry for taking such a drastic step but my wife and kids were getting on my case about it not working. Hopefully this was just a fluke, as the server ran flawlessly for well over a year before this happened. If not, I will resurrect this thread.
Very odd indeed. Glad itās fixed. Did you reinstall all the plug-ins you had before? Just curious if maybe one of those was causing the problem.
Good question: I had not yet but I will do so in the next day. The only plugin that I was using was the SubZero one for auto downloading of subtitles

MovieFan⦠any chance you could give my logs a look in this thread?

Problem came back again after fresh install. Should I grab another set of logs? It was running fine for a while but now if I try to load videos it just shows loading and nothing happens. I have to restart the plex server process to watch anything
and worth noting that I had no extra plugins installed this time and all seemed to be working fine until I re-did the phone photo sync.
I see PMS rescanning your photos and running into some DB slowness, but it appeared to work itself out. I donāt see a request to playback any media though.
What Plex client are you using? Can you recreate the problem and get me the log from the client?
We use web, chromecast, android, native windows, and roku. All have the same issue in that I can browse movies but if I attempt to view, it just sits loading forever. If I reset the server process, I can load a movie but then it goes back to the same behaviour on subsequent views.
When I get home tonight I will pull logs from different devices for you. Thanks for the help!
Just 1 will be fine. Iām most familiar with Android so that should do.
Please make sure you use the app, try to play something, wait for the error, clear the error. Wait 30 seconds, then get the logs from both the app and server. Do not do anything else as it may hide the error and make it harder to find.
Got message āUnable to play mediaā on phone. Logs from Android and Server attached

Hey, I see this in your log.
Dec 17, 2017 23:17:06.168 [21616] DEBUG - Starting plug-in C:\Users\server\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins\Comedy Central.bundle.

So you do have some plugins installed and running. Not saying one of these is the culprit, but canāt rule them out either.
I see an error in the Android log. Basically the app is not able to keep a secured connection with your server. Why, I canāt tell. Thereās nothing in your server logs to indicate something crashed/failed.
You can try turning off the secured connection. From Plex Web ā Settings \ Server \ Network \ Secure Connection \ Disabled. Restart PMS.
Then in your clients, there is an option to āAllow insecure connectionsā. Enable that.
This is just a test to see if the secured connections is the issue.
Another thing is that I see you have Plexās DLNA server enabled. Iāve seen rogue DLNA clients screw up a local network. You can try turning off the Plex DLNA server. Maybe try this first as this is a more common cause Iāve seen.
Changes put in place, will let you know the results and post logs. Note I did all the other changes and NOT the DLNA (sorry did it out of order) so we will see what happens
Sorry have not posted logs yet but so far the changes made seem to have had an impact. I have been able to play videos over the last several days without issue. The question in my mind is: What could have changed in my environment to necessitate turning off secured connections? I am worried about keeping Plex operating like this in the long term. My server functioned for over a year without having to resort to disabling secure connections.
Checking back in on this. The issues are back even with Plex being set to allow insecure connections and DLNA being disabled. Anything else that I can try?
Still seems like something with your network is interfering with Plex. Maybe reset your router and try from scratch.
- static IP for your PMS
- turn off UPnP and enable port forwarding
- Make sure IPv6 is off
- check IP renewal times
- see if your router is set to automatically check for firmware updates and turn that off
does it matter if I am direct connecting to the server via browser on my own LAN? I just tried connecting with Chrome on the server itself and was getting the same behavior making me wonder if the network is involved. The error I get is āThere was an unexpected error loading librariesā. As usual, if I force stop plex processes and start the server again, I can play a video or two before it stops working.
My home network is all Meraki. IPv6 and UPnP are not enabled. Port forwarding has always been enabled for the plex server. DHCP leases are 24 hours but the Plex server machine has a static IP. My firewall is not set to automatically check for updates.
