I recorded 3 movies with Plex and after watching them I went to the drive they were on and deleted them. They continue to be shown in the listings for movies that I have. How do I get plex from thinking they are still there? It says those movies are Unavailable. I have tried to remove the trash that does not work. Since I have recorded a Movie on live TV why do I have to save them to Movies and not to where I record TV Shows?
Good question on the libraries - I thought you could change it at record time. It probably is because of the EPG information available. For example, TV shows have seasons and episodes, but movies don’t. Still…
In regards to removing those deleted movies, in Plex Web have you tried rescanning you Movie library files? In Plex Web hover over “Movies” on the left and then click on the bread crumb dots that appear just to the right of “Movies”, and then click on “Scan Library Files”.
I cannot find what you are describing, can you give a picture of how to find this? I think I already did this, but I am not sure. I never get a trash can as I do for TV shows recorded. When I see that I tell it to remove trash and it does.
Plex uses two separate scanners to match meta data that follow different naming conventions. https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/
For trouble free use of the DVR you should have two dedicated libraries, one for TV, one for Movies that are only used with the DVR. Turning on Settings>Server>Library setting “Allow Media Deletion” will allow you to delete the show after watch or by library rules. The reason for keeping them distinct from your other libraries is you don’t want the server to suddenly start deleting file when you set any of the auto delete settings.
Any particular reason you are deleting external to Plex?
I’ve boxed in green the option to rescan the library from Plex Web.
