This is my first support post, and I’ve looked for answers already, but none of the similar topics I find have any responses. It’s almost like no one is really providing support in the forums. However, I’ll still give it a shot.
As others have noted, I cannot resume if I’ve gotten too far into a “high quality” video. For a lower quality video I can resume anywhere all the way up to the end of the content, but for high quality I often can’t get further than 5 - 10 minutes of resuming before the client just stops. I monitor the Plex process on the Plex Server and I can see the CPU ramp up… lots of RAM and network getting used, then it all suddenly stops and as soon as that happens the client pops up a message, “Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost. Please ensure the server is available and retry.”
Sometimes when this happens I can click retry and it will work after a few tries. For really high quality videos this never works, and my only option is to start watching from the beginning and skip ahead about five minutes at a time. Sometimes I can reboot the hardware and it will work one time after Plex comes back up, but not multiple times.
I thought perhaps it was the hardware the Plex server is running on, so I bought new greatly upgraded hardware, no difference. I’ve tried skipping ahead while transcoding while on a very low quality, leaving at the original quality, etc. No change. I’ve upgraded to the latest version 1.13.4.5271. No change. I’ve read some of the performance tuning articles and followed the advice. No change.
Not sure what else to try. Any suggestions? I’ve been using, and paying for Plex for years now. This is really annoying.
