Can't add channel to DVR/Tuner

Server Version#: Version 1.31.3.6868
Player Version#: Version 4.100.1
Tuner Make/Model: HD Homerun Prime
Guide/Lineup name: Comcast
Using XMLTV?: I don’t think so.
Channel number/Name: Any channel above 1000
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

Specifically trying to add channel 1166 to my DVR. When I check the box on that channel, and select the correct channel from the drop-down list, I click [SAVE]. It blinks and comes right back with the [SAVE] button. The only way to close the channel matching window is to press [Cancel}.

I’ve tried this on a variety of different channels above 1000, but it always seems to fail like this. In fact, there are no channels above 1000 enabled. Is this a limitation of Plex, my tuner, or do I just not have something configured correctly?

Thanks!

This behavior is typically what you see if you attempt to assign the same guide data to more than one channel. For example, if you try to assign “1166 getTV (KSTCDT3)” to 1166 and another channel in your list (maybe there’s another getTV which is being auto-assigned?) you will not be able to save it.

I’d recommend checking your EPG/channel assignments for duplicates. Also, your server version is relatively old; it may be worth your while to upgrade. For what it’s worth, I’m on PMS version 1.32.8.7639 and am able to configure channels above 1000.

Thanks for the assistance! I just double checked the channel assignments, and 1166 getTV (KSTCDT3) is not being used on any other channel. The only one that’s close is it’s SD variant “208 getTV (KSTCDT3)”

Unfortunately, I can’t upgrade due to the host OS being Win 8.1 Enterprise (it’s a VM on my 2016 HyperV server). I have tried to upgrade it in place with Win 10, but it bootloops after the install, and I have to revert the VM back from a snapshot/checkpoint. But that’s a different issue that I need to work through.

No problem.

Understood about the version upgrade.

One other suggestion would be to try the same via the hosted web client at https://app.plex.tv instead of using the embedded version. In that way you’ll at least be using the most recent web client version (the local version is always a few releases back). It could be that something was corrected in the client between 4.100.1 and now (4.118.0).

Plex has been plaqued by this before covid happened, specially with comcast.
I get this problem all the time like its been reached of how many channels it could save or knock one channel out to add another channel in and still, I get what you’re having. The save button circles and comes back acting as it wasn’t clicked save. Surely is bothersome. Doesn’t matter if its local or I use the web client or another pc. does the same thing. Just doesn’t save.

Thanks for the suggestion @pshanew , but unfortunately that version has the same behavior. So this must mean that this issue is in my installed version of Plex. Hmmm…

How many channels is the max? Right now, this is what I have:

I’m sure I could flush out some SD channels that I never use, if needed, to help resolve this!

The upper limit for Plex is 480 channels. That is, that is the maximum number of tuner channels mapped with guide data. It appears you have 296 enabled currently, so you should be good for 184 more.

idk but i have 2 hdhomeruns, one at 343 and the other at 336. This has been bugging me for months on end that I can’t match the numbers together. and here’s the thing, not a single channel guide has been added twice.

Drat, OK. I’m well under that then. at 296 enabled, right?

Correct. You should be able to map up to 184 more channels.

Do you have any additional channels below 1000 you could try to map, just as a test? Based on your original post I believed this problem o be specific to channels 1000+, not the total number of channels mapped.

You know, I can’t remember if I tried adding one from the 0-999 channel range. I’ll give that a whirl here in a bit and report back!

Ok, interesting!

Chan	ID Can Add?
------------------------------
015 Park TV yes
142 BETJ yes

842 CNNHD no

1166	KSTCDT3 no

I’m going to see if I can find a pattern.

Was able to add 213 but not 199.
Was able to fix 207, 269, 294, 563 that are enabled but no epg selected, weird.
Unable to enable 630.

These two channels are enabled but the epg is empty, reslected epg, i click save then it backs out after circling a few seconds.
713, 715 - checked the guide, numbers not there.

This is just tuner box 1 only 340 enabled.

I found something truly interesting! When adding channel 1166 and the guide data for 1166, I can’t add it, the [SAVE] button just flashes for a second and the channel matching window stays open.

However, if I select channel 1166 and the guide data for some other channel, say like 921, it works, but obviously the guide data is all wrong. So that tells me that Plex doesn’t like something about the guide data for channel 1166.

Is there a log that I could check, or where is the EPG data held?

Do you see the same problem if you deselect all channels except for 1166 and configure only it? It may be necessary to delete the DVR entirely and recreate it to properly test this.

I have not tried that yet, mainly because I have a lot of stuff that’s scheduled to record, and I don’t want to mess that up. I did, however, remove 12 channels that I never use, and that didn’t seem to help any.

Can’t get the BIG10 to be added. Recently disabled some sd channels and yet I’m still unable to add this channel.

Removing and re-adding the device doesn’t work. to many times and im not doing it anymore to re-add the channels I want, its a big waste of my time.

Do the Plex developers ever come into these support threads to assist, or does a support case need to be opened for something like this?
