I can’t add a media to an existing Collection. I can see the Collection itself, but if I then go to some media I’d like to add to that Collection, none of the 3 methods to do so work - none find the Collection I’d like to add to.
I’m using the latest version of the QNAP Plex Server. This happens on the Plex Web Player. On Android (also latest version), I don’t even have a menu to add to Collection…is that normal in fact?
Thanks in advance for your help!
EDIT: I realize now that there is a message that’s displayed when I try to add to Collection: “Save your first collection” which indicates that something is clearly wrong since it doesn’t see that I already have a Collection created!?
Can you verify the target collection is a regular or smart collection?
Smart collections are entirely defined by their filter criteria… you cannot manually add single items to them and therefore they don’t show up in the add-to menu.
Ok, solved. I misunderstood how Collections work. So for anyone else in the same situation now or in the future, Collections are library-specific. So if you create a Collection in your movie library, it will ONLY contain movies, not TV Shows, Music, etc…
What I was trying to do was to add a TV documentary to a Collection I had created for another library called ‘Documentary (movie)’, i.e. feature film docs rather than TV docs.
Since they each reside in a different library and I had never created a Collection in that TV docs library, it appeared empty!
However, if you want to include the soundtrack of the movie and maybe a spin-off TV Show or documentary, just create a Collection in those other library (Music, TV Shows,…) and give them EXACTLY the same name.
Then when you open those identically named Collections, whether it’s from your Movie, Music or TV Show library, they will all show the same content with separate sections for each library.
Hope that’s useful to someone…some day!
