When I try to change a movie poster (to a poster that is already downloaded) the page will spin for about a minute and the poster won’t change. About a minute later the poster that was there goes away and goes to Blank. Can not change back to the original poster, or any other poster. Note: This only happens to some posters (seemingly about 50% of them fail like this).
I’ve done a lot of troubleshooting and I’m now stuck. First I tried optimizing, updating, and refreshing. None of that changed. I thought the titles of my movies may have had something to do with it, so I renamed all 750 of them to ‘Movie Title - Year’, Then updated, and Refreshed. No Fix.
I then thought it might have to do with some corrupt cache of some type, so I deleted the Local App Data Folder. Uninstalled and Reinstalled Plex. I still have the same issue. I’ve had this Plex Server running for ~2 years and this problem has only come up in the last couple weeks (as far as I’ve noticed).
I do not have any problems with Media Playback, only changing posters. Does anyone else have this issue?
My Machine Specs are:
Windows Server 2012 R2
i7-2700k
4 GB of DDR3
Samsung Evo 850’s SSD’s in Raid 1
My Media is on a separate Synology, connected through SMB
Plex Version: Latest 3.11.0
This machine is 100% Dedicated to Plex. I know it’s overkill, it was an old gaming computer I converted. There is NO Anti-Virus, Malware-Free, Raid is Healthy, Memory sitting at 60% Usage, Processor sitting under 10% even when attempting the change.
Any Ideas? I was thinking of rebuilding this on an Ubuntu Server, but don’t want to go through the trouble if I will still have the same issue.
FileBot (link in my signature) can handle that for you automatically or manually in seconds.
What FileBot can’t do is remove possible embedded metadata in the Title Field of MP4/M4V files. Plex will read this info and prefer it over a perfect file name/structure (you don’t have any of those yet), but you can combat that situation by moving Local Media Assets to the bottom of every agent list you can find. All tabs in TV Show and Movies here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200241558-Agents
Just drag LMA to the bottom of the list and drop it. If you do have embedded metadata this will cure the issue, if you don’t it won’t matter. LMA will do what it has to from the bottom.
Just in case you’re using MP4/M4V files - or ever want to - the above is noteworthy.
Renaming/restructuring is best performed OUTSIDE the library!
A long time bug with a solution old enough to draw social security…
When a show or movie has been matched and you need to write a new bundle - you need:
What you’re seeing may be related to a bogus bundle Plex’s Dog simply won’t drop. The Plex Dance® is the 2x4 we bash Plex with so it will drop the bogus bundle and you’ll be able to write a new one.
No one helps me, I ve been stuck here for more than 2 months, this is it for me, bye bye plex, we had good times but you are just not showing things pretty as you used to. I ve asked on:
I am used to get some kind of assistance when I pay a subscription for a product, doesn’t happen with plex. You are alone, why should other users that pay as me find a solution? Plex moderators should, and most of the times they don’t even answer. SHAME ON YOU.
BYE BYE FOREVER
Just canceled my subscription. I am a plex user since 2011.
